Is Mou the man for Spurs?

Not so special anymore but good enough for Spurs?

The same question is on everyone’s lips at Tottenham Hotspur; is Jose Mourinho the man for Spurs going forward? The pressure has ramped up on the Portuguese after a shock defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Europa League, but will Daniel Levy stick with the man he chose to succeed Mauricio Pochettino back in November 2019?

In short, the answer is likely to be yes – for a number of reasons. Perhaps the most prominent of which is the financial implication of breaking the four-year contract that Mourinho signed at the club less than two years ago. There are reports that sacking the would mean a significant financial hit at the most inopportune time given the financial impact that the last 12 months has had on teams. A return to the Champions League would be a welcome fillip for the balance sheet, as well as the Spurs faithful who will hopefully return to the stands for the 2021-22 campaign.

As it stands, a top four place now looks unlikely. Unibet offer odds of 11/2 that Tottenham can climb their way up the table between now and the end of the season to finish in a Champions League place. A top six finish looks more achievable though, priced at 5/4 by a side that offers one of the top betting promo codes available. Even with some poor recent results, those odds certainly don’t rule Tottenham out of a return to Europe next term.

Making a move in the dugout isn’t just that a change that would be financially costly at the moment. It would also mean moving on from a manager with a proven CV at the very top level. Mourinho has a glittering haul of trophies and Tottenham’s decision to bring him into the club signalled their desire to continue to compete for the biggest prizes on offer. If Spurs are to become a force in Europe, a manager with the experience of two Champions League victories, a Europa League and a hat-trick of Premier League titles could prove invaluable.

While the current season hasn’t gone to plan, Spurs have an incredibly talented squad spearheaded by the most clinical finisher anywhere in the English top flight. Any team that can call upon a frontman such as Harry Kane – who has already amassed over 150 Premier League goals – has the potential to challenge for top honours. Kane has also committed to a contract that runs until the summer of 2024 which rewarded his incredible rise over the past few years.

That should realistically calm any fears of the 27-year-old moving on this summer, despite the clamour from pundits suggesting that he should look elsewhere after the Europa League exit. The potential for big transfers such as the amount needed to convince Tottenham to even think about selling to the likes of Manchester City or Real Madrid look particularly unlikely in the current climate.

Yes, the defence will be the priority under Jose Mourinho. That’s probably always going to be the case given his pragmatic approach but it has rewarded him in the past. However, with the firepower that includes Kane, Bale and Heung-min Son, Tottenham do have the tools to compete with the best in the Premier League. They boast one of the most experienced managers in the division with a proven track record of bringing silverware to whichever club he’s working for. The journey to a title or domestic cup won’t always be smooth sailing, but less than halfway through a four-year contract, fans are unlikely to see a new face in the dugout at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium anytime soon.

Hi guys, great pod and good therapy, especially last week. Re the above, I totally agree. What do you think of the Levy abuse? I think covid threw all his master plan out the window. He finally gets his man (Mou) & still has to shop at aldi as opposed to harrods for players as no funds coming in during this period. It would be nice if Uncle Jo released a few quid in advance of fans, concerts, Rugby, Boxing and fucking god knows what else, are allowed in the stadium. That would suit us as fans, please Jose and we might fucking get somewhere. FUTURES BRIGHT THO. COYS 👍😊.
All the best Ian. Old twat.
