Spurs Chances 2021/22
Tottenham Hotspurs had been the butt of the footballing community in the UK for as long as anyone can remember. Despite being a member of the ‘Big Six’, the club has never won a premier league title, akin to Liverpool – though they at least have Champions League trophies under their belt. In recent years though, they have proven to be a force to be reckoned with. Utilising superstars like Harry Kane, Heugh-Min Son, and Lucas Moura, Spurs have themselves to be a hard team to come up against.
At their best, they are excellent but at their worse, truly shocking. In 2017, Spurs finished second in the league but in the most recent season, they finished in 7th place. This was following a slump in performance, arguably attributed to the uninspiring football that Jose Mourinho commonly practises. It is no surprise that under his reign last season, Mourinho experienced 10 league defeats for the first time in his career, further showing his decline. Now that Spurs has been handed over to Nuno Santo from Wolves, things are looking up again for the Lilywhites.
Heading into a fresh season, Santo will be hoping to make his first full season in charge of Spurs a memorable one. However, he faces uncertainty over leading man Harry Kane. Arguably the best English striker, he has been linked with Manchester City who is seeking to add a prolific goal scorer to replace the departure of Sergio Aguero. If Kane does leave, it will come as a major blow to Spurs and their chances of having a successful season given the impact he has on the team. Fortunately, there are other talented strikers that Spurs could seek to sign if Kane does decide to leave. Gabriel Jesus is one player that would make sense. With a total of 82 goals for City, he could be available as a part-exchange deal.
Santo impressed with former club Wolves, and he will likely continue that form now that he has got a stronger squad to play around with. The departure of Kane would certainly be a problem for Santo, but it might just be exactly what the team needs. If Kane departed, it would offer an opportunity to change how the team is structured, as it has been much of the same up to this point. An example can be seen from neighbours Chelsea. When Eden Hazard left and the club faced a transfer ban, then manager Frank Lampard opted to showcase the youth, to great success. That team went on to win a Champions League trophy with the help of Thomas Tuchel, and the same kind of transformation could happen to Spurs.
The odds of Tottenham winning the league currently stand at 40/1, you can use a bet365 bonus code to bet online here, which shows that the bookmakers do not rate Spurs chances. With a new manager in tow though and potential signings to be made, Spurs can make a legitimate challenge for the title.
