Will Spurs Missing Out On Adama Prove Pivotal?

Have Tottenham missed a trick?

Spurs have been heavily linked with Wolves flyer Adama Traore for the last couple of transfer windows. But, the move looked closer than it’s ever been this month, with many predicting the Spaniard would make the switch to North London. However, his former club Barcelona made a late play, snatching him from Spurs’ clutches.

Talks between Spurs and Wolves had been going on for weeks, with Antonio Conte rumoured to have been a big admirer of Traore as a potential solution at right wingback because of the physical attributes the 26-year-old possesses. So, to lose out at the eleventh hour will be a significant blow, and it could prove pivotal in more ways than one.

Spurs have struggled to get their business done in this transfer window in terms of finalising deals. And, with Conte already making comments publicly to the media about the need for new recruits, situations like this will only continue to irk the fiery Italian more. He wants players, but Spurs continue to draw blanks.

The Traore topic, one which is amongst many talking points, that has multiple elements. It also means Spurs are missing out on a player who can be deployed effectively in numerous positions. Because of his incredible pace and power, Traore has proven to be a nightmare for defenders playing wide of a three or in a two for Wolves this season.

So, it’s fair to say Conte may have planned to bring him in primarily as a wingback, but with the knowledge that if they need to move him elsewhere on the pitch because of player absences, they can do. Therefore, missing out on Traore could prove to be pivotal, as Spurs could lack the depth in their squad to secure a top-four finish.

The aim for Spurs, Daniel Levy and the powers that be must be to add quality to the squad before it’s too late. If they want to clinch fourth spot, which will prove incredibly lucrative, they need to back Conte. They’re currently behind Manchester United, West Ham and Arsenal in the race. And Wolves are also hot on their heels, with the pair due to meet in the league soon. This holds exciting prospects for PartySports and other established bookmakers who have an audience who are well informed and willing to have a punt on how this situation is likely to evolve.

And, it makes sense for there to be an expectation of players arriving, as Spurs are prepared to let several first-team squad members leave the club in this window or the summer. With players heading for the exit, Conte will want replacements and replacements that he believes are up to the job.

If Spurs and Levy fail to deliver for Conte, it’s likely their top-four dream, and the confidence and trust of the manager will be at severe risk of sliding away. And, if that happens, it could set the club back further, in an era that many felt they could close the gap between themselves and other teams in the league.
