Need to get to know the new teams for next season? We have you covered. There are a couple of familiar faces and a team with a ground that needs to be seen to be believed.

Burnley, Turf Moor

Fans of the Premier League should already know this team well. They have only been away from the top flight of English football for one full season, but they return as a very different team. Former Manchester City player Vincent Kompany was appointed as manager in June 2022 and revolutionised the team.

He signed a lot of young, talented players using his pull as a respected pro and changed the team’s tactics and style of play to focus on possession and become an attack-minded side. The revolution has been successful. Burnley won promotion with seven games left to play last season, setting a new Championship record. This team is one to watch and it looks like they will stay up if they can continue their form into the new season.

Sheffield United, Bramall Lane

This team has not played in the Premier League since 2021, and like Burnley, they have undergone a lot of changes since then. Their changes have mostly been behind the scenes, with the owner and Saudi Prince Abdullah bin Musaid Al Saud of the House of Saud taking full ownership of the Blades from his initial 50 per cent stake after a prolonged legal battle.

This brings Bramall Lane back to the pinnacle of English football. It is thought to be the oldest ground in the world still hosting regular games. The ground has been updated and upgraded many times over the years. They have taken advantage of the rules of the game, especially related to the areas of a football pitch, to tweak the pitch to suit their game. Pitches can be between 100-150 yards long and 50-100 yards wide, giving grounds some leeway. Only the size of the goals and goal nets is set in stone, so clubs can adjust the pitch size a little if they want to. Sheffield United take a route one approach, so expect a thinner play area to help keep the action in the middle of the pitch.

Luton Town, Kenilworth Road

The Premier League’s newest additions, having never previously played at the top level, Luton Town have been getting a lot of attention between the end of last season and the start of the next. Luton began the 2009 season playing non-league football in the Conference, and now they are preparing to welcome the world’s biggest teams to Kenilworth Road. It will be quite a homely welcome.

The ground is part football stadium, part terraced house. Away fans will arrive on a normal-looking street of terraced houses in Luton, only to find that two front doors are the entrance to the away end, with turnstiles in the entryway. You walk up a set of stairs straight out of a house, to continue your journey into the away end. It has to be seen to be believed and is going to make Luton Town a quirky place to watch your team play next season.

Tune into the new season to meet the new boys in August, and take a closer look at their stadiums, each with a storied history. Maybe they can establish themselves in the top flight, and not crash out of the league and back down to the Championship next season.
