Will silverware appear at the Tottenham Stadium this season?

Tremendous start to the season

Spurs fans can perhaps be forgiven for getting carried away following what has been a tremendous start to the season. After ten rounds of Premier League fixtures, Tottenham sit at the summit of the division and after brushing aside Crystal Palace on Friday evening, they were briefly five points clear of the chasing pack. Such an excellent start hasn’t happened in over 60 years (1960/61 to be precise) when Spurs went on to win the title, however hopes are high that the side will maintain a decent title challenge until the latter stages of the campaign.

The leading UK betting websites make Spurs a best price of 10/1 to lift the Premier League trophy this season and given their excellent start to the season, many believe that this isn’t simply a pipe dream.

Things could look different by Christmas

Nevertheless, it would be unwise to get too carried away given that we are only about a quarter of the way through the season and things could look very different at the top of the Premier League table by Christmas. As far as Spurs are concerned, the next six games look particularly tricky and you can keep up-to-date on the action by visiting the BBC Website.

Return of Mauricio Pochettino

Tottenham Hotspur’s next outing is a tough London derby with Chelsea at White Hart Lane on November 6th, an encounter which often proves to be a somewhat feisty affair. Blues boss Mauricio Pochettino will make a return to the ground at which he turned Spurs into Champions League contenders on a regular basis, even leading them into the final in 2019.

Chelsea have been very much a mixed bag so far this season, an apparent turn around following a shaky start to the campaign coming to an end with a disappointing home defeat to near-neighbours Brentford last time out. Clearly Spurs fans will be aiming for Postecoglou to get the better of Pochettino here but this promises to be a tough encounter, many of the leading online betting sites offering a wealth of football free bets on what promises to be a thoroughly entertaining encounter.

Tough trip to the West Midlands

How on the heels of this London derby comes a trip to the Midlands where Spurs do battle with Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux, a difficult place to go for any side. Wolves have already brushed aside Manchester City at this venue and Spurs lost 1-0 in the corresponding fixture last term. All things considered, Postecoglou’s men would likely be more than happy to return home from the West Midlands with a point in the bag.

Visit of a strong Aston Villa side

Aston Villa make the journey to White Hart Lane on 26th November, the Birmingham side having also enjoyed a blistering start to the season with 22 points collected from their opening ten league matches. The Villans have been particularly strong in front of their own home fans with some convincing wins including thrashings of Brighton & Hove Albion (6-1) and West Ham United (4-1).

Tricky encounter against defending Premier League champions

In recent seasons Tottenham have been something of a bogey team for Manchester City with three of the last four meetings between the sides going Spurs’ way. In 2023/24, Spurs won 1-0 on home soil but went down 4-2 at the Etihad Stadium and with Postecoglou refusing to give an inch on his attacking style, such an approach could result in his side coming unstuck when they visit City on December 3rd. Star striker Erling Haaland has banged in eleven goals in ten games this term and it would be a dangerous game giving him too much space here.

London derby

Just four days on from their trip to the Etihad Stadium, Spurs entertain city rivals West Ham United for an evening London derby on 7th December. The Hammers have experienced a notable drop in form of late but this is nevertheless still a very useful side. A win for the visitors here would dent Spurs’ title challenge and there’s nothing a Hammers fan likes better than getting one over on Tottenham Hotspur.

End of a tough period

Newcastle United visit White Hart Lane on 10th December, the Magpies experiencing a rather inconsistent start to the season which has left them in sixth position at the time of writing. They have proven their abilities in convincing fashion this season with an 8-0 demolition of Sheffield United and a 4-1 thumping of PSG in the Champions League, while they embarrassed Tottenham to the tune of 6-1 in 2022/23. On home soil, Spurs will be confident of getting the better of the Magpies and rounding off what is a very tough period.

Season looking rather empty

Away from the Premier League, the season is looking rather empty for Spurs. Having finished in eighth position in the top-flight in 2022/23, Postecoglou’s charges have no European football to enjoy, while they were dumped out of the EFL Cup by Fulham (via a penalty shoot-out) in the second round of the competition. As such, the only other piece of silverware up for grabs is the FA Cup where the leading UK and Irish betting sites have Spurs priced at best odds of 11/1 to lift the trophy.

Life after Harry Kane

All things considered, this has been an excellent start for Tottenham Hotspur and the fans have come to realise that there is life after Harry Kane. With points dropped in just two of their opening ten league matches, Spurs have proven that they have the credentials to be considered genuine title contenders.
