Robbie Keane’s Take: Solanke the Missing Piece in Spurs’ Puzzle?
Ah, Robbie Keane. The man who could find the net with his eyes closed and celebrate like he’d just won the lottery. His time at Spurs was filled with goals, passion, and that unmistakable cartwheel-somersault combo. It’s hard not to reminisce about his time in Lilywhite. Over two spells at the club, Robbie made 306 appearances and scored 122 goals, making him one of our top scorers. His passion and commitment were evident every time he stepped onto the pitch, and his influence extended beyond just goals; he was a leader and a fan favourite. So, when Keano shares his thoughts on our current squad, it’s worth paying attention – even if it comes with a side of nostalgia for the days when he was leading our line.
Robbie’s spot on about our rollercoaster performances this season. One week, we’re putting four past Manchester City (a result that had us all pinching ourselves), and the next, we’re stumbling against teams we’d expect to beat. It’s the classic Spurs experience: thrilling highs followed by head-scratching lows. If we’re serious about challenging for silverware, this erratic form needs addressing. After all, consistency is key—or so they say.
Enter Dominic Solanke, our £65 million man from Bournemouth. Robbie highlights Solanke’s pressing game and overall contribution, noting that while he’s done well, there’s room for more goals. It’s early days, but the lad has shown glimpses of the quality that convinced us to break the bank. We’re all hoping he can channel his inner Keane and become the reliable scorer we crave.
Then there’s Richarlison. Fitness issues have hampered his impact, and Robbie rightly points out that we need him firing on all cylinders. With his flair and tenacity, a fully fit Richarlison could form a formidable partnership with Solanke. It’s a tantalising prospect, if only our medical team can work some magic.
Robbie’s insights come from a place of experience and love for the club. He knows what it takes to succeed at Spurs, and his observations serve as both encouragement and a gentle nudge to the current squad. The message is clear: talent is there, but application and consistency must follow.
Keane told Betway Insider:
“Spurs have been inconsistent all season. You see how well they played when they beat Man City 4-0, but then they keep losing games against teams they should probably beat. They really need to sort it out, because if they want to compete at the highest level and win trophies, they have to beat sides like Fulham and Bournemouth.
You’re always reliant on your striker to score a lot of goals. Dominic Solanke has done OK so far in terms of his pressing and what he brings to the team, but I’m sure he’d probably want to score more goals.
Richarlison has also been struggling with his fitness, and he certainly needs to come back in the second half of the season and support the team, because Spurs need him.”
The season is still young, and there’s ample opportunity for Solanke and the rest of the squad to find their rhythm. If they can take a leaf out of Keane’s book — combining skill with unwavering determination — we might just see the consistency Robbie speaks of. And who knows? Maybe this time, the rollercoaster will end on a high.
