Will Ange Be In Charge of Tottenham Next Season?

The pressure mounts

When Ange Postecoglu took over at Tottenham he had to contend with losing Harry Kane, a difficult job for any manager. However, great results and a happy-go-lucky attitude made many Tottenham fans think they finally had a manager who could bring some silverware back to the club.

Fast forward two years and Tottenham sit just four places above the relegation zone and we have a manager who sounds bitter and defensive and can’t ever look people in the eye after a bad result.

Add to this a growing number of embarrassing confrontations with angry fans and it is looking less and less likely that Postecoglu will be in charge for the 2025-26 season.

The mounting pressure is at such a point now that licensed bookmakers and UK betting sites not on GamStop are offering markets on the next permanent Spurs boss. These sites accept players who have signed up for GamStop, which makes them more accessible than standard betting sites. While many will look at this as being unfair to offer markets on a position that is not vacant, the results speak for themselves.

The manager put himself in an awkward position by stating that he usually wins something in his second year. Though he was talking about his past record, there is no doubt that he was confident he could achieve some level of success at Tottenham in that timescale.

The truth of the matter is that the team he has built has not been producing the form required to win things. Injuries have played a part, but injuries are part of the game and it was his job to build a squad that could cope, to some extent, with this.

He came from Celtic with a glowing reputation, and nobody can deny that he did a decent job up in Scotland. Still, he didn’t face much in the way of competition with Rangers struggling. When you look at his European form for Celtic, he managed the club as they became the first team in history to be eliminated from the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League in one season as the team tumbled from one competition to the next.

His inability to change his tactics saw him struggle in Scotland, and the same has happened at Tottenham. Many managers facing an injury crisis would have looked at the players available to them and tailored their tactics in the best way to get points on the board. Ange’s arrogance has not allowed him to change his tactics.

His “It’s who we are, mate” quote has not aged well, because who we are is a team that has seriously struggled this season.

At the moment, there are lots of names being mentioned to replace the Australian who is finding himself increasingly out of his depth, including Thomas Frank, Mauricio Pochettino, Anoni Iraola, Kieran McKenna, Edin Terzin, and Marco Silva.

If Spurs haven’t learned their lesson and choose to replace him with another Celtic manager, Spurs fans could enjoy odds of 33/1 for Brendan Rodgers. However, after just being battered at home by rivals Rangers, Rodger’s stock is falling.

The big outsiders include former managers Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte who are joined at odds of 125/1 by former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.

Despite a lot of fans losing faith in Postecoglu, the European dream is still alive and he could go on to win the Europa League. Not only would it give the club some much-needed silverware, but it would also earn them entry to the Champions League next season and all the riches that come with it.

Failing that, a good run of form, other English teams doing well in Europe could, and results going their way could see as many as 11 English teams qualify for Europe next season. There is still time for Ange to turn things around, but whether he is capable is a completely different story.
