Tottenham Hotspur Football Club: Remembering the 2022 World Cup
The FIFA World Cup draws the very best players and teams from across the world. This is the most exciting individual sport competition in the world, and nations and their people live and breathe for how well their team will perform.
However, for some, it is not just about how well their nation is performing in the World Cup. Many love to see those who play for their local club doing well. They want to see the stars they watch each week on the pitch thriving and excelling for their native country. This is why many who love the Tottenham Hotspur Football Club have to be enjoying the 11 players who made it onto the world’s biggest stage.
Great Action from Across the Globe
While the World Cup is garnering all the attention, it will not be long before players are returning to their clubs to continue their respective seasons.
It is not surprising that fans are focused on the World Cup, but they know their players are going to return to their teams for exciting action in each and every match. These leagues give players the opportunity to not only be on the best team on the planet, but who also represent their professional clubs.
The Tottenham Hotspur Football Club entered the World Cup in fourth place of the Premier League, going 9-2-4 through their first 15 matches. However, they did drop three of their final five matches before the World Cup. Still, Bovada’s soccer betting odds has positioned the Hotspurs in one of the top 4 spots in the EPL that will secure the UEFA Champions League participation next season.
Hotspur Well Represented
However, for 11 Tottenham Hotspur players, it has not been a break at all. This group was chosen to represent their nation in Qatar, with each position on the field well represented by the club. Here is a brief look at each of the 11 and who they are playing for.
Goalkeeper
Hugo Lloris is playing for France. At age 35, he is the second oldest goaltender on the team, and was expected to be in net for the French team for the majority of their matches.
Defenders
Three defenders from the Tottenham club are appearing in the World Cup. Two of them are playing for Wales, as Ben Davies and Joe Rodon are both expected to start for the Welsh. Eric Dier is playing for England, and each of these three should have a significant impact on the defensive alignments for their teams.
Midfielders
Three of the Hotspurs midfielders are represented at the World Cup as well. It starts with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who will be playing for Denmark. Rodrigo Bentancur is on the Uruguay club, and Pape Matar Sarr plays for Senegal.
Forwards
The forward group is the most well represented from Tottenham, with four playing for their native nations. Harry Kane joins fellow countrymen Dier on the English club. Richarlison joins the heavily favorite Brazilian team as they look to reign over the soccer world. Son Heung-min plays for South Korea and Ivan Perisic with the Croatian team.
Proving Their Worth
With 11 players on rosters for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, it makes Tottenham one of the most well represented of any in the English Premier League. In fact, it makes them one of the most well represented of any team in any league on the globe. It is a true testament to the talent on this team.
Kane is having a spectacular season, and is expected to have a huge impact for the English team. He has 12 goals through the first 15 matches for Tottenham, easily leading the club. Bentancur has four tallies, second on the team, and the South Korean Son and Danish Hojbjerg each have three.
Lloris has started all 15 matches for the Hotspur, making 20 saves while allowing 21 goals. He will likely remain as the top goalkeeper for the remainder of the season.
Not All Are Convinced
Clearly, with 11 players represented on the World Cup rosters, Tottenham has proven themselves to be a talent laden club. However, not everyone is convinced. There is a lot of push to try to increase the investment in the team.
With four teams in the Premier League sold or on the market, it is clear that those clubs are going to get a massive infusion of cash, which should dramatically impact their success on the field.
There are some who were believing that the Spurs are in need of some type of new investment or for the club to be sold outright. Failure to do so, it is feared, will relegate this club to the middle of the pack or even the bottom of the standings for years to come.
