No Go Aurelien

French midfield star, Aurelien Tchouameni is set to be sidelined for the mega clash at Wembley involving his side, Real Madrid and German giants Borussia Dortmund. Barring any late recovery, he is set to be absent for that highly anticipated fixture.

After the Champions League final is concluded, the 24-year-old will be able to make the trip with the French national team to the European championship, but he will likely not be available at the start of the Mundial.

Los Blancos manager, Carlo Ancelotti will wait until the last minute to decide on the French midfielder following a niggling foot injury in the semi-final second leg win over Bayern Munich on April 30. Also, it is necessary to add that Real Madrid tickets have been in high demand all season and are still selling fast ahead of the Champions League final.

The doctors gave an original window for his recovery for 3-4 weeks, and this puts him at risk of missing the final at Wembley because he would need to be fit to make the squad.

The 24-year-old has been an integral part of this Real Madrid setup and it will be a loss for Los Blancos in the centre of the pitch.

L’Equipe, a French publication, also reported that Tchouameni will not be ready and fit in time for the final at Wembley, and he could also miss France’s opening fixture against Austria on the 17th of June.

Though, both his club and country are sweating on his fitness neither has come out to outrightly rule him out of both fixtures. So he is still in the French roll call going into the Euros and he is still in contention to make the squad going into the final next week.

Marseille’s Jordan Vertout has been touted as a possible replacement for the Real Madrid midfielder in the advent of any confirmation of his absence in the next month’s Mundial. Reports suggest that Didier Deschamps will keep his options open as he continues to prepare his team to claim glory at the Euro 2024.

In terms of quality, both Real Madrid and the French national team are rarely in lack, so you would expect numerous replacements to come up, or a change of tactics to suit any form of development. However, the 24-year-old’s game has improved greatly and his defensive contribution to both sides can not be undervalued, and his absence will feel more like a loss.

How can Real Madrid shape up without Tchouameni ?

Aurelien Tchouameni’s job at the Santiago Bernabeu needs not too much description – he is the tsunami, the destroyer of whatever the opposition is trying to concoct. This is very similar to what Casemiro was doing at the club before his departure. So it’s a very straightforward job but yet very energetic and quite delicate.

However, the job must be done by someone else in the advent of the 6 ft 2-inch midfielder’s absence. His French compadré Eduardo Camavinga can slot in his stead, as he is known for his versatility and agility in midfield. Also, Federico Valverde can play in that position, as he too is quite versatile and can move the ball even quicker than both players earlier mentioned.

Real Madrid is stacked with midfield quality and can go with a gung-ho midfield trio of Bellingham, Kroos, and Valverde. With Modric being recently regularly used as a substitute in most games, Toni Kroos can exert himself as a starter and is expected to play a key role in what would be his final Real Madrid game after announcing he would retire after the 2024 Euros.

Los Blanco’s last La Liga game against Villarreal at El Madrigal was an entertaining 4-4 draw in which Villarreal’s striker Alexander Sorloth scored a quadruple of goals. While goals from Turkish attacker, Arda Guler (2), Joselu and Lucas Vasquez were enough to earn a draw away at Villarreal.

Though Ancelotti will be pleased with his second-string side holding their own against a resolute Villarreal side, the defensive porosity of his team will be a huge concern going into the Uefa Champions League final and even into the next season, with the unavailability of Aurelien Tchouameni, a dip into the transfer window market for a similar midfielder might become necessary.

Who is next for Real Madrid?

Los Blancos have already been crowned champions of the Spanish top division for a 36th time and the entirety of their focus has been shifted to claiming yet another Champions League title. It will be another opportunity for the fringe players in the team to show what they can offer by putting up a strong performance when Real Betis come visiting at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Real Betis side will end the season in 7th position, a decent finish for the club but a rather unwanted drop in heights and standards recently set at the club. They will hope to add to their tally of 56 points and finish strong when they travel to the capital.

Their last match ended in a home loss to Real Sociedad (0-2). Goals from Brais Mendez and Mikel Merino were enough to confirm the non-participation in Europe of the Seville club.

Conclusion

Real Madrid’s midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni faces a race against time to be fit in time for the titanic clash against Borussia Dortmund in the Uefa Champions League final, and he is also a doubt for the start of the Euros tournament. He will hope to at least participate in one, as he builds up his fitness.

Real Madrid has a good reservoir of possible replacements to shore up the vacuum due to his imminent absence. A change of formation could also be possible.

Next up for Real Madrid is Real Betis who have had a relatively underwhelming season and will hope to finish on the high by putting a spanner in the wheel of a high-flying Real Madrid side.
