1882: From Across the Pond

Spurs songs sung loudly. So loudly that they can be heard far, far outside the realm of The Lane, or even your country. I say this because I’m an American. If that disqualifies me from participating in this conversation, then I apologise for overstepping my bounds. Further, I have to preface my remarks by stating that I’ve never stepped foot inside White Hart Lane, or even the country itself. I’m only about a thousand dollars from having saved enough money to be able to make the pilgrimage, and I relish that opportunity. Unfortunately, it costs someone like me £5,000, not... Read more »

I’m Spartacus

I’m 53 years old and have been supporting and watching Spurs since the late 60’s. I cannot remember the first time I heard use of the term ‘Yid’ either directed at me as a Spurs fan, or sung by Spurs supporters. It was sometime back in the bad old days for football, the 1970s. It was probably the 77-78 season as that was when I started going to just about every game, home and away. Back then I had no idea what that term meant. I don’t even recall when I became aware of the meaning of ‘Yid’ and the... Read more »

1882: The Spurs Poet

We realise that us publishing this is a little self-indulgent, but The Spurs Poet did such a cracking, goosepimple inducing, job that we couldn’t not share it with you. Now and then we get a buzz Of something in the air We really let the world pass by We do not have a care But together we can conquer As the Tottenham masses unite Maribor the enemy On a cold Thursday night It was a stark contrast To a game played at the Lane Only a few days earlier When the boos we could not tame But this is not... Rustler Burgers and Fillet Steaks

The next seven days of football are sure to serve up a footballing feast of which could leave us chowing down on fillet steak or a rustler burger. A rustler burger may have its merits to some but all too often in Premier League years gone by we have been served up this savoury microwavable delight, chewing on gristly fat served up by the footballing elite. The Etihad and The Emirates are daunting trips for any but I think there is call for cautious optimism as we enter a week that could well define our season and potentially leave us... Read more »

AVB: The Waiting Game

Even within the first few minutes of, the frustration in the stands at the Lane last Saturday was palpable. The lack of movement, backwards passing, and predictable forward play served as a stark reminder of just how different this Spurs team is to the (often but not always) dynamic blitzkrieg of football we saw under Harry for much of last season. Watching Sigurdsson and Hudd at the heart of our midfield struggling to find a decisive ball through the solid Wigan defence felt like another world to the days of Modric and VDV inventively carving the opposition apart, and while... Yids – Bringing People Together

Having been brought up in the 1970s and 1980s in Hackney in east London, it was easy to get caught up in racism. Skinheads, Punks and rude boys were the main groups to become a part of and these all had their own set of beliefs that you had to support. I was a scrawny short white boy and also painfully shy when I went to my secondary school. It was built over seven floors and there was around a thousand boys (no girls unfortunately) at this school and they were from all over the world. We had West Indians,... Read more »

AVB and the Charismatic Carroll

A Thursday night fixture against the champions of Slovenia would not, these days, exactly get everyone’s pulse racing. There is a comedown from Champions League football whether we like to admit it or not and the failure to sell out this fixture is perhaps testament to that. Despite the post CL hangover, there is (to use an oft quoted Spurs cliché) a certain ‘je ne sais quoi’ about a night under the lights at White Hart Lane; the all white kit, the unfamiliar players and the sense of urgency that accompanies any tournament fixture. Last night was no exception. We... Read more »

1882 announcement – Maribor

Tomorrow night we play Maribor at The Lane. The 1882 movement will be up in Block J of the Shelf stand. We expect a night of fantastic atmosphere in a battle of noise with the passionate Slovenian support. We hope to match them song for song in an attempt to drive the team forward to a victory we desperately need if we’re going to make it out of the group stages of the Europa League. The club are well aware of what the 1882 is, and what it is trying to achieve. They support us as we support the shirt.... Read more »
