What a Lovely Pair

Morecambe and Wise, Del Boy and Rodney, Sooty and Sweep and to a lesser extent Ant and Dec, these are names of some great British double acts over the years, but none of the above will live in lilywhite memory like Ledley King and Michael Dawson. Although Dawson may never be remembered with quite the iconic status of legendary centre backs Perryman, Blanchflower or the King himself, you can’t deny that the boy had his moments. In the 2009/10 season Didier Drogba scored 29 league goals and was basically unplayable. He was so good in the air that he barely... Read more »

The Cost of Progress

To me, White Hart Lane is my church and unfortunately no matter how nice and shiny the new stadium is it will never be quite the same. I’m sure I’m not the only Tottenham fan out there that views the impending Northumberland Development Project with a considerable degree of trepidation. Don’t get me wrong the route we are going down is without doubt the lesser of two evils in comparison to the idea of upping sticks and moving our club to Stratford. I realise that in terms of being able to compete at the top level, a bigger stadium is... Read more »

More Liver Please

At a time when Croatian pigeons are fleeing the nest for Spanish pastures and teams are asking for over 20 million quid for any old pile of s***, it’s good to see we have some young talent to fall back on when times do get really hard. Caulker looks every inch a future England centre back, Tom Carroll is only a little lad, bless him, but he’s got that touch of class that reminds me of said pigeon, Andros Townsend looks he could be good player if he could figure out how to pass the ball and striker Harry Kane... 1882 Update – we’re the West stand Tott-en-ham!

Further to the announcement of the 1882 movement, The Fighting Cock are delighted to confirm that the club have allocated us two blocks (15-16) in the West Lower for the NextGen games against Barcelona. That’s about 600 seats. It would be amazing to sell them all, which would easily do the 250 we took to the Charlton youth game back in March. For those that want to meet before the game we will be in the Bricklayers pub from about 5pm. They know we’re coming. Ticket info: This is the email we received from Spurs: We have had an internal... Tottenham squad: all Mod cons…

Luka Modric will be sold to Real Madrid. It may be today, it may be tomorrow, it might be deadline day, but one way or another we will end the transfer window without our influential Croatian playmaker. This clearly leaves us weaker in the midfield department given his classy performance on a consistent basis for the last 4 seasons. Despite this, I am not fully convinced it is essential we replace him right now given we are a day from the season starting, and a replacement would cost 20 million pounds at the cheapest, and a focus on investing in... ’twas the night before Newcastle…

Twas the night before Newcastle, all quiet at the Lane, No game tomorrow, all the players had taken a plane. The shirts were hung on the pegs with care, The fans all hoping, Jenas wasn’t bound to have a ‘mare. The squad were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of victory, danced in their heads. Andre ironed his suit, combed his hair into a parting, Tossing a coin over whether, Defoe or Kane would be starting. When out on the Toon, there arose such a clatter, Dos Santos desperate to spring from bed, to see what was the... Read more »

The 1882 movement

On 13 September 2012, at 7pm, Tottenham Hotspur play Barcelona at White Hart Lane in the NextGen Series, the competition that sorts out the best of the youth teams in Europe. While on the pitch a game against one of Europe’s best youth set ups will be a stern test, in the stands it will be a different matter: Last season The Fighting Cock organised for 250 fans to travel down to the Valley to watch the Spurs youth team take on Charlton in the FA Youth Cup. We lost one nil. That didn’t matter. The point of the night... Read more »

The Fighting Cock podcast – In a nutshell

Disillusioned with the other available Tottenham Hotspur podcasts, The Fighting Cock was birthed from the desire to offer Spurs fans a slice of supporter ideology without the constraints of appeasing the mainstream. Mass appeal and advertising revenue was not our goal. We wanted to offer something a little leftfield to the norm and if people liked it, we’d keep on recording. Our only preparation was to make sure we had none. We don’t turn up blind every week and record without a hint of a running order. What we mean is, we wanted to be as upfront about Spurs as...
