1882 announcement: Bolton – FA Youth Cup

The Fighting Cock is delighted to announce that there is to be another 1882 at a youth game at the Lane – almost a year since we attended our first game. Last September we played Barcelona in the NextGen Series and there was around 700 Spurs fans in the 1882 section. It was a brilliant night, and although the lads went down 2-0, we all sung out hearts out for 90 mins and they loved it. On final whistle the entire squad game over and gave us their thanks. They didn’t have to, they were playing in our lilywhite, but... Read more »

Transfer Window Lickers

This is not an apology piece for the disappointing lack of courage, activity or balls demonstrated by Tottenham yesterday (or in the preceding 30 days) I am as frustrated, perplexed & baffled by the repeated lack of desire to speculate, to add that one extra player, the special ingredient that hopefully makes achieving our aim of CL qualification more likely But what do I really know about the restrictions, limitations or business pressures & opportunities at the Club? Just as much as the next bloke actually – “Sweet Fanny Adams” as my mother would have said. We shouldn’t forget the... Read more »

Ah, transfer windows? Don’t you just love them? There I was, like many Spurs fans, biting my nails as the clock ticked towards 11:00pm on January 31st 2013. We’re going to sign someone! Yes! It has been foretold. The “In The Knows” have told us so! 95% chance! The Damaio deal is off, no it’s on, no it’s off, but wait, it’s definitely on!!!! Negredo too!! At least forty five back up plans if it doesn’t come to pass! Sound familiar? It should. Anyone who has followed Tottenham Hotspur through any number of transfer windows will know the story. Big... Our January business: a positive spin

Ins: Lewis Holtby [reported £1.5m from Schalke], Zeki Fryers [£3m from Standard Liege] Outs: Jermaine Jenas [undisclosed to QPR], Andros Townsend [loan to QPR], Tomislav Gomelt [loan to Espanyol], Simon Dawkins [loan to Villa], Ryan Mason [loan to Lorient], Alex Pritchard [loan to Peterborough], Heurelho Gomes [loan to Hoffenheim], Yago Falque [loan to Almeria] A sense of déjà vu would have surrounded all Spurs fans during yesterday’s transfer deadline day. The usual Twitter hoaxers were out to make a name for themselves with fantastic tales and Daniel Levy reprised his role as 11th hour transfer tease, missing out again on... Read more »

Brendan and Arsene’s Project Tottenham

Deep within the catacombs at Anfield, two men are sat around a table talking football. The lights have been dimmed, three envelopes lay on the table and its Saturday afternoon, less than a day until both Tottenham and Liverpool are knocked out by lower league opposition in the FA Cup fourth round. “So, Brendan, so far you have done quite a good job.” “Yes, it’s going as I planned it. We are finally starting to see some results. We have three strikers now, a few midfielders and even Stuart Downing is starting to create more than just bad jokes.” “But... Read more »

Leeds Away – Match Report

Cup games away from home to lower-league opposition are a case of mind over matter. In reality, top flight sides that fall victim to the overly marketed ‘magic of the cup’ are rarely outplayed, but defeat themselves by approaching the ties with the wrong attitude. In the same way that playing a relegation threatened side toward the end of the season is routinely dubbed a potential banana skin due to their lack of anything to lose, the same cautiousness should surround cup ties of a similar nature. Leeds United are not a better team than Tottenham Hotspur; they do not... Read more »

Have Tottenham fallen foul of the ‘Big Fish in a Small Pond Syndrome’ again?

Say the names David Bentley, Darren Bent, Sergei Rebrov and Bobby Zamora to any Spurs fan and they’re likely to either a) laugh in your face or more likely b) give you a response along the lines of ‘what a waste of money’ (probably with a few expletives thrown in for good measure). Both responses are completely valid for two reasons; Bentley, Rebrov and Bent arrived at Spurs with reputations bigger than their transfer fees warranted, and Zamora came with the tagline ‘double promotion winning wonder striker’ (I paraphrase). But what all 4 have in common is they were massive... Read more »

What happened to Emmanuel Adebayor?

The game was only a couple minutes old when Emmanuel Adebayor pounced on a poor back pass from Kolo Toure. The Togolese striker ambled forwards, the keeper was already on the floor, Toure had his head in his hands and the supporters dotted around the Royal Bafokeng Stadium prepared for the goal. However, as a Tottenham Hotspur supporter, my spidey senses were tingling. “He’s going to miss.” I mumbled to myself and after what seemed like an eternity, he did miss. As I sat there and contemplated his failure, something occured to me. It wasn’t the miss itself that worried... Read more »
