We’re Spurs

So here’s the thing, the latter part of our season has led us to the cusp of Champions’ League qualification and while we can point fingers at who is ‘to blame’ [Harry, the players or Chelsea], ultimately our London neighbours saw us relegated to the Europa League doing the very thing we should have done marginally more of, winning matches at all costs. Of course, we’re Spurs and we blew it, like we blew every other chance for silverware this season, by a) going out on pens to Stoke, b) losing AT HOME to (!) PAOK, c) getting slaughtered by... The ‘Y’ Debate

Well, firstly, I suppose that I should present the credentials that make me qualified to pass judgement on the subject of whether or not it is permissible for Spurs fans to use the word “Yid” in reference to themselves or Spurs players. I am Jewish, not only through birth, but through practise as well and, in addition, I have been a Spurs fan for over 40 years. (I am old enough to have lived through a Tottenham championship year; albeit I was only 3 months old when Danny Blanchflower was awarded the trophy.) I left England over 30 years ago... Read more »

The Revolution will not be Televised

I’ve always had a romantic ideal of how football should be. I don’t mean the game itself, as much as I do the match day experience. Maybe I’m pining for an era of football that I never got to experience; before all-seater stadiums, before the ‘prawn sandwich’ brigade and most of all before television, and more specifically Sky, strangled the last bit of life out of the game as it once was, and repackaged it as the sanitised, family friendly product it is today. As someone who didn’t start going to Spurs until the mid 90s, I never got to... Read more »

The Matches That Define Our Season

After a roller coaster 2011/11 that saw the club enter its first Champions League, the media and fans alike had high expectations for Tottenham Hotspur in 2011/12. It started poorly, and after a run of one league defeat in 19, the team was rocked by a heartbreaking away defeat to Manchester City, Harry Redknapp’s court case, and then the speculation over his future considering the England vacancy. All of this culminated in a terrible run of form, seeing us win only two league games between February and May, and after a fourth place finish, the inevitable heartbreak continued as qualification... We need to talk about Ledley

This is going to be painful to type. For all Spurs fans there are a number of difficult issues to confront at the end of a rollercoaster season: was fourth place an under or overachievement? Will Levy get the cheque book out? Can the club afford to allow another Modric saga to drag on throughout the summer? Some are even debating whether Harry deserves another season to push the team forward. However, for me one issue looms over all others: what to do about Ledders. On the one hand, the club captain’s dedication and heroic performances in the shirt since... Read more »

Daniel Levy and The Most Important Transfer Window Ever

You’d hope that football chairman pay little attention to the internet. I don’t envision him signing up to our forum any time soon to keep us updated on the latest transfer news and I’m pretty sure that Daniel Levy hasn’t got a Twitter account. He’s surely too busy busting the balls of other chairman and football agents to have time to tweet. Dan Levy @danlevyTHFC: Had soup for lunch. Carrot and coriander. #reem Dan Levy @danlevyTHFC: Harry wants to play golf with me at the weekend. Going to tell him I’m busy #awkward If he was to have a Twitter... Read more »

Proud to be Bayern?

So 38 games done and dusted and what are we left with? A week praying to the footballing gods that come Saturday night Spurs have their rightful place in the Champions League. Come on, we deserve it don’t we? Surely? If we’d been offered 4th back in August we would have sold our mothers to take it. Yet now, to some fans it feels like it should have been so much more. I agree, I really do – the way we were playing in the opening half of the season was a joy to behold, so anything mini capitulation that... Read more »

May the farce be with you

Amongst other things I’m a fan of Tottenham Hotspur, and Sci-Fi in general. I’m not a Sci-Fi geek, but I just like Red Dwarf and all things to do with Aliens and Spaceships (and laser beams). Okay I am a bit of a sci-fi geek, but I’m far from an expert. One Sci-Fi I’ve never really understood the appeal of is “Star Wars”. Therefore it may be particularly foolish to use it as an analogy for the plight of Spurs fans, but I’m going to do it anyway. Everyone is different in the amount they follow and support their club.... Read more »
