Transfers Summer 2016 Transfer Window Thread

First off Sissoko is not shit, but at £30 million, regardless of the market, it is fair to have doubts. I am convinced Poch could get something out of him, but is there enough there to warrant this type of buy? I also think that well he is pretty versatile, he doesn't have the qualities that we are truly lacking, either pace/the ability to take people on, or the ability to take over Eriksen's role if needed.

If £30 million is actually possible take it all and dump it on the table at Schalke for Meyer. He is everything that the Poch regime cries out for, young, pace, with potential world class skill. I don't think they could say no to that type of money and given the market prices these days, £30-£35 million would not freak out supporters or cripple the club financially.

Everyone freaked at Martial for £36 million last summer and now it seems like a bargain. If we want a "star" buy, our only chance is to catch them on the way up. As much as I would love Isco, once they get to RM, or Barca, they are likely out of our grasp.

Real Madrid won't want to take that risk though - it would not surprise me if he signs a new Real Madrid deal by the end of the window.
I agree they have said for a few years now that Isco is surplus but then he pushes his way into the frame. I mean he started over 30 matches in all comps last season (21 in La liga) it isn't like he hasn't been playing. If you want to compare to say VDV. He was not playing at all. They are not in a position to worry about a players wages who may be a bit part player. If they even have the slightest inclination he may play some part for them this season. there is no reason to loan him.

We aren't finishing top four this season unless we do a Leicester and really play beyond ourselves.

The Manc clubs are a cert, which leaves two places and us competing with Woolwich, Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton. We never finish above Woolwich, and all these teams have strengthened. We played well last year, but our points total was comparable to AVB's full season, when we finished 5th. If that doesn't make it clear that we also benefited from an unprecedented downturn in Manchester and from Chelsea then I don't know what does.

Personally I think we'll be 5th or 6th this year. I don't expect much more, especially with us also having to play CL with an arguably thinner squad. People see last year's finish and get wide eyed and expect a title run. But I think people need to be realistic.
I've thought for a while we'd finish 5-6 just thought that wouldn't be matched by the club, seems like a half arsed transfer window where they're conceding as much. The depth in CM is very thin, too thin.

Last season we were also going to get pummeled by those teams....

City - won their first 5 PL games
Utd - had signed Depay and Schneiderlin, both players the doomsayers we definitely needed.
Scum - always finish top 4 under Wenger regardless of what we do.
Chelsea - previous seasons Champions.....we could never hope of catching them
Liverpool - massively outspent us on players......again the doomsayers said we couldn't keep up with that
So you think lightning will strike twice?
The most important ingredient in Manchester and Liverpool is the change of managerial personnel. will be very hard to surpass.
Most of them still use leicester as proof that it isn't an advantage to spend more.
That was a freak 1 off season. This season will be a lot tougher.
Hope levy doesn't expect poch to get us top 4 this season. It would be very harsh on poch.
This is new experience for me. Not usually pessimistic.
Have we outspent Newcastle or have they too spent more than us.
Yes, if we get 5th-6th I won't lay any blame on Poch, it will be interesting if injuries hit en masse given depth is questionable.

Sissoko isn't an AM though, he's a CM. Our interest in him seems to be driven by the fact we've looked pants without Dembele in the squad. Sissoko would slot directly into that same position and is one of the few players in Europe with a similar playing style to Dembele (deep lying, incredible strength and dribbling ability, direct running).

Maybe Poch thought we'd be OK in situations where Dembele wasn't available, but saw that wasn't true. We just don't know.

I agree that he could probably fill in better for Dembs than anyone we've got. But I wouldn't say he's no AM. Did well as an AM for France in the euros.

Lightning strikes every season. There's always a bit more room at the top than anyone expected at the start of the season, only last season there was a lot more room. Someone will under-perform. One of the Mancs or Chelsea will probably find it difficult to meet the hype. Woolwich will do as Woolwich does, playing brinksmanship with the top 4 but not really going for it. Leicester will find it very difficult to continue with the trends of last season, and this will be Liverpool's year, until it isn't.
