I'm thinking that Defoe's new contract is a tactical move by Levy to ensure that if someone comes in for him in the next couple years he can still get some money for him. Can't see any other reasoning behind this unless AVB thinks he has found a way to get the best out of him.

Looked back through old formations listed for our matches and they did start together a bunch towards the beginning of our winning streak, and a few times subsequently as well. Our record was pretty good when they started too. Totally forgot.

I recently read someone hypothesizing that their effectiveness broke down after the Newcastle game when they both failed to pass to each other when we had chances right at the end of the match. Sounds a bit far fetched.
