Think you’re mistaking challenging for 4th place with challenging the top 4. Under Redknapp we scraped 4th never were we in contention for 3rd and above. As he never looked beyond that. His quote about us never having it so good, how small time was that?

Plus ignoring the fact THAT city side we beat to 4th had Wayne Bridge, Adam Johnson, Craig Bellamy and Wright Phillips in it, slightly different now isn’t it? As the challenge gets harder we get even better

Some people think even when we were at Wembley playing the league cup final in 2015 with our players and staff physically there Poch wasn’t trying to win the cup, insanity

And if still anyone brings up Redknapp again the biggest bottle job I have ever seen was losing to Portsmouth, that was on a plate and we fucked it, under Poch we are losing to Chelsea and United which some fans on here don’t understand are actually trying to win too!! It’s not all about us we aren’t Liverpool fans for fuck sake
Doublethink.
We can't compete with the top clubs because the board aren't ambitious.
We are better than the top clubs but lose because we don't want to win .

The same posters argue both points simultaneously within one post at times.

Why do people always forget the Jockey Club Kitchee Centre Challenge Cup?

Showed a winning mentality then got rid of the winning captain for the day.

Worlds gone mad.

Again we are back to the revisionist tactic.

We finished 4th in his last season 1 point behind Woolwich and we had occupied 3rd for most of that season until imploding at the end.

We should have been comfortably 3rd however Redknapp was too busy fielding questions about being England manager, we met imploded well before the end of that season. Instead we scrap 4th and lose a CL place due to the Chavs.

Anyway I’m happy where we are with Pochettino as we’ve moved up a level since those days.

We have progressed from occasional CL qualification to consistent CL qualification. Great but we are no closer to winning anything.

We were the chief title challengers each of the two previous seasons in which we finished 2nd and 3rd, the highest places we’ve ever ended in the PL. That’s very literally much closer to winning something.

Where the fuck are we supposed to get the money to attract the top players you demand we sign or to increase Toby’s contract? Winning the fucking Cartoon Cup is worth £100K. But we should prioritize it over actual competitions which aren’t a complete fucking joke? FA Cup doesn’t pay shite, but at least it’s got some historical meaning. The Cartoon Cup has been a fucking sham from day one, it’s never been anything that fucking mattered to any club that could actually win something real. The idea that we out to make concessions in other comps in the interest of winning that fucking joke of a tin pot is ludicrous. Utterly meaningless.

The top 4 is the basic minimum priority at all the big clubs because, financially, it’s a basic necessity. This is especially true for ourselves, woolwich, and Liverpool as we don’t have sugar daddies or behemoth global sponsorships. So, no, it’s not a trophy - but for the stability and growth of the club in the interests of winning something really meaningful it’s far, far, far more important than any domestic cup. Especially the shite one.

Fans over the age of forty can see the current 'tottenham' as the best we've ever had ... us senile old gits remember well the seasons when anywhere near challenging the top four was just a delusional dream ... remember from '91 to '15 we never finished top three, now we've done it three years in a row ...

For those of a more tender age, brought up on instant gratification, that means nothing ... for them trophies are all that count ....

Different strokes for different folks ....

Realistically for us to win the EPL - City, Utd, Chelsea, Dippers, Woolwich - they've all got to fail ... that's happened just twice with Blackburn in '95 and Leicester in '16 .... so only twice in 25 years yet we expect to do it every season ... realistic? or just wishful thinking?

And there you have it when a supporter becomes the stockholder, where revenue becomes preferential to silverware. It’s show just how warped things have become when supporters measure the value of a trophy by the monetary awards attached to them and denigrate the tournaments that have defined this club.

Newsflash, we finished 12 points behind Leciester and came in 3rd, at no point did occupy top spot. We followed that by finishing 2nd and only ‘6’ points behind the winners and again did not occupy the top spot at any point that season. If that makes us ‘challengers’ then we have a very different interpretation of this. And besides why the focus on those seasons what did we challenge for in this one?

As for acquiring the finance to attract the best players. Well firstly I have made no such demands, we don’t have the means to pay the best and the CL doesn’t alter that in anyway. If it did we would have seen a different output in our transfer windows, we would see us paying our best players the market rate. That’s not happening because you are turning the CL into something it is not. You are creating a fantasy out of media generated soundbites designed to sell tv packages.

I would imagine you dont have the slightest clue how much it has generated for us or the slightest at clue as to how the distribution works. If you did then you wouldn’t making such proclamations about such a highly variable unsecured income stream.

And there you have it, it is now considered delusional to place expectations on one of the most talented sides in the league to actually win something.

The real question is why do so many supporters continually act as if this is the ‘90s? Why do so many measure CL qualification as success when for years we mocked Woolwich for their top 4 trophy obsession? Why are so many supporters so passive to the fact the club hasn’t won anything in a decade despite having two fantastic sides in that time?

We have become the Colin Montgomerie of the football world but rather that critiquing as to reasons why such a talented side keeps on falling short we are supposed to keep our mouths shut because to do so makes us enititled? Get the fuck out.
Er because they are our rivals fella, a rivalry that's over 100yrs old. We mocked from the 2nd division, are you saying we should have done that?

What the fuck do you do? From the sounds of things you are the type of supporter who walks into a room embarrassed to support Spurs, I bet you are one of those blokes that when introduced as "hi everyone I'd like to introduce you the Hood, he supports Spurs", you make an instant reply "for my sins" and everyone has a little chuckle whilst they handout the pineapple and cheese toothpicks, you no doubt engage with polite footy chat and wish them well in their Champions League quest and go along with the fact that they are title contenders without acknowledging once that they haven't been such for 15yrs, whilst we have, no doubt congratulating them on their FA Cup wins against mighty Hull and mighty Aston Villa.

You are also aware that the people who you are slating are the same people that actually support this club, rather than behave like you and slag it off the Club post after post. This fantastic team we have that "we" support and love, you show nothing but scorn and displeasure towards it. You say it's fantastic but all our posts indicate displeasure and doom. You say that are fantastic whilst blaming the Manager that has made them fantastic. You say they are fantastic whilst slagging off the fans that show love towards them.

Couldn't make it up. You are just about the very definition of delusion.

Players don’t sign because a team wins the FA Cup. However if a side has CL on offer that certainly makes them a far more attractive proposition.
Those teams that happen to be good enough for top four are also the same clubs that have dominated the trophy haul of the other cups. Since 1980 (nearly 40yrs) only 6 teams other than Utd., Chelsea, Woolwich, Liverpool and Spurs have won it! In the last 22yrs it's only been won by a non-top 4 side twice.

Quite something to post all of that and post little to no substance.

Firstly we weren’t mocking Woolwich for the mere sake of it, we were mocking them for their absurd top 4 trophy proclamation. For them using this to excuse their failure to win silverware. We have gone from that to converting that postion, we are Woolwich circa 2007-2013 and people are actually championing this. Utter complete madness.

Secondarily what embarrasses me about this club are those involved in the club who prioritise revenue steams over silverware who denigrate tournaments such as the FA cup or UEFA that have defined this club. It’s not doom and gloom it is called frustration at watching such an massive opportunity being squandered in the exact manner as it was during the Redknapp era and so many in the supporter readily going along with this. It’s same strategy as before and low and behold it is the same outcome. You fantasists can spin all of the comfort narratives you want - none of them from CL revenues to the new stadium hold true.

How many years have to pass without silverware before the penny drops and people actually start to realise that something is amiss? I guess I know the answer because supporters like yourself perpetually live in a fictitious golden future they have dreamt up and never in the here and now.

Christ you're fucking boring.

What should we do? Play weakened teams in the league before all cup games? Risk bankrupting the club by signing bug bume players on big wages all for the sake of winning the FA cup?

Pompey did they, where the fuck are they now?

Seriously I don't know what you're moaning about. We've really never had it so good.

Cheer the fuck up!

Can you explain how we "denigrated" the FA cup THIS year ?
The line up being
Vorm
Tripp Sanchez Jan Davies

Dembele Dier

Son Dele Ericksen

Kane
Whilst I agree that Hugo should have played, apart from that it's been pretty much our first team line up.
