Cue two English teams meeting in CL finals (1 June) and two in the Europa League Final (29 May) and knackered players being available for Nations final on 5 June.........with Southgate wanting the players training for a week or two before Nations League Finals.

Southgate's worst nightmare ?

Two English teams in the Champions League final! I wasn't sure there'd be two in the knockout stage.

I maybe optimistic, but crazy that UEFA arrange the club competitions so close to the Nations League Final as that was bound to be a potential issue, lucky for them maybe that very few Switzerland, Netherlands and Portugal players are likely to be involved (but UEFA didn't know when they set the dates that German, French, Spain, or Belgium etc players weren't going to be in the finals).

On this occasion I don't really think there's much else UEFA could've done. The club finals have to be pretty late to account for leagues which finish later than ours (e.g. the Italian league doesn't end until the 26th of May). And if you push the Nations League Finals Tournament later into the summer, it hugely disrupts pre-season preparations for clubs with players involved who end up getting them back late while everyone else is off on holiday. The only solution really would actually be more UEFA control - bringing the schedules of the major leagues in-line with each other so that there was only one set of dates the European fixtures had to work around.

Geography is not our friend re that dream. Trying to arrange football seasons in places like Russia, Scandinavia etc without a winter break is like trying to pish uphill. You can schedule it but it's not being played. Then if you try to go further into summer you hit Latin/Med countries sweltering.

The Russian league runs on the same rough schedule as the PL I believe (August-May). but the Scandinavian leagues except for Denmark run on a late March/early April - November schedule so those would definitely be trickier to schedule national games around. But majority of the players in the Scandinavian national teams are out on the greater continent so maybe it is a non question?

I hate the players being announced in alphabetical order, I find it easier to understand when players are grouped in their playing positions

Jack Butland (Stoke City),
Tom Heaton (Burnley)

CB
Harry Maguire (Leicester City),
John Stones (Manchester City),
James Tarkowski (Burnley),
Michael Keane (Everton)

FB
Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool),
Danny Rose (Tottenham Hotspur)
Luke Shaw (Manchester United),
Kyle Walker (Manchester City), (also CB)
Kieran Trippier (Tottenham Hotspur),
Ben Chilwell (Leicester)

CM
Fabian Delph (Manchester City),
Jordan Henderson (Liverpool),
Declan Rice (West Ham)
Eric Dier (Tottenham Hotspur)

AM
Dele (Tottenham Hotspur),
Raheem Sterling (Manchester City),
Jaden Sancho (Dortmund)
Ruben Loftus-Cheek (Chelsea),
Ross Barkley (Chelsea)

Striker
Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur),
Marcus Rashford (Manchester United),

Good news is Harry Winks is given a rest, Dele back even though he's only just back from injury and couldn't last the full 90 minutes in his first game back.

Those midfield options are so poor.

Fabian Delph hasn't started a single league game since 26th December.
Ruben Loftus-Cheek hasn't started a single league game since 2nd January.
Ross Barkley has started just 4 of the 9 games since 2nd January.

Henderson and Rice are really the only ones who get consistent game time and I am not sure you can really play those together. 3 left backs and 3 right backs in the squad too.

Though looking at it, you've missed out Dier in midfield, but even then he's started 1 game since the 8th December and much like Henderson and Rice is a bit on the defensive side. Should probably start looking to develop himself as a right sided centre back in Southgates three.

I think it might be the case where Dele may need to be dropped deeper in midfield. Put him and Rice in there together with Rashford, Sterling and Kane up top.

Refuse to believe there is no talent in the Championship that could be called up
