Match Tottenham Hotspur v Ajax, Champions League Semi-Final, Tue 30th April

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I was disappointed with our crossing considering we were playing Llorente up front.

Our crossing was playground level. Floaty balls are a goalkeeper and defenders bread and butter. Every single cross was thrown in like a fairy was tossing it up in the air. Zip, fierce behaviour non existent. Even if your teammate can't win the ball, frighten a defender into a poor clearance or corner given away. We lacked some serious brains tonight and a couple of players played with no venom (Dele).

I'm Dele's biggest fan but I worry he's turning into a big time Charlie and he thinks he's made it. I hope it's fatigue but if it isn't he's seriously running the risk of throwing away his unique talent because he's lost his edge. It reminds me of Rocky just before he gets trounced by Clubber Lang. All posters and autographs, no grit.

Ok John.
You slag off Spurs relentlessly and it pisses me off
How many mega money signings did Ajax have tonight?
They were fucking amazing without a Messi or Ronaldo. They built a fucking incredible team that wiped the floor with us first half. Don’t you see that is what we are trying to do too? We could have fielded £250,000,000,000 talent and still got near to them in that first half. Madrid & Juve tried it.
Jesus will you please stop blaming levy etc.
Sometimes the very best of the best don’t have to be high maintenance. I’d take half that team tonight on sheer ability and will.
We don’t have to spend a billion to get those players

0-1 still in the game with sonny coming back and starting next game with Sissoko in midfield will make all the difference

It’s not about signings when Dele and Eriksen been ever presents and not doing well enough they need to give us what they can do in the away leg and we go through

Hope Jan ok, we can do this, 2-1 away COYS

Basically Poch played with what he had - a lot of fit defenders and not much else. Even though he probably knew it wasnt for the best. The first 30 mins we were absolutely schooled in midfield, painful to watch. Jan's injury forced him to change it before half time and then suddenly we became a significantly better side, they all felt comfortable again.

Hopefully the lesson is learned now and its 4 at the back next week, and I dont ever like calling players out but Llorente and the two full backs did not have the best of games, proven further by his chosen options off the bench being a centre half and a slower left back when we were 1-0 down. Son and Lucas up top next week, and Aurier may be much maligned on here but he would be a better option if fit than Trips at the moment who seems be having a brown patch in form unfortunately. And if KWP is good enough to play at the Nou Camp hes good enough for this game

The boys gave absolutely everything. I thought the crowd did well to try and lift the team, but they are shattered, and we have no back up at all. I really am concerned about fatigue over the next few games. We are still in it though. See everyone in Amsterdam.

At 1-0 we are most definitely in this next week. I would have taken that with half an hour gone.
Showed some bottle last hour of the game without the quality to cause them real problems but we pegged them back for a lot of it at least.
Injuries have fucked us big time-call it lack of investment or bad luck whatever-we are where we are and we have a chance to go there with nothing to lose next week and beat them.
Their home form isn't great in CL and we most def have a chance.

I am disturbed by dele eriksen and moura though. This was their time to shine and carry us and they were really poor again.
Playing a back three without Dier instead of Wanyama was the mistake for me. I know Dier isn't in the best shape or form BUT I think the ability to change to a four and add a player in midfield with him instead of Sanchez would have made a diff tonight tbh.
Wanyama was like a child chasing shadows. Foyth did more in ten mins than Tripps did in 80 and our two main attacking mids did nothing on the biggest stage they have ever played on.

Now a must win game at bournemouth and the second leg-we are gonna learn exactly what we need to about these players in the next week.

God knows I don't want to drag this up again but...

You were the most adamant in August that we'd done exactly the right thing. You barely stopped criticising those who said we should strengthen.

Then you had a road-to-Damascus-moment in February and said, actually we should have. Your criticism then, bizarrely, was for those of us who said we should have signed cover in central midfield (as well as elsewhere, but you ignored that bit).

We had no midfield today (until the Lazarus-like Sissoko came on) and got overran.

Would you accept then:

(a) We should have strengthened central midfield in the summer or in January?

and/or

(b) We should our attacking options in the summer or in January?

Because it looks to me and loads others that our failure to do so, whoever might be to blame for that (my suspicion is that that blame can be spread among a number of people/departments), is badly affecting us now

Errrr don’t remember anyone wanting to replace Dele and Eriksen last summer do you?

They’re the first two I’d upgrade if we seriously want to play better football
Living in La La Land if you think a RB will make Eriksen better

Not just Sammyspurs though but loads of posters.

Yet despite the imescapable fact that mamy played down our need for more options of quality, tonight was down largely to the choice of formation.
