Match We can be heroes (again) Ajax versus Tottenham Hotspur CL Semi Final Wed 8th May

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Current plan is to dip out and grab a 16" sub and a 6 pack of beer to last me the afternoon and evening, hole up in my hotel room and tell my colleagues I can't miss this "important meeting."

FUN FACTs to keep you entertained while we all wait for 6,5 hours to pass

There's only been one team ever to overturn a 0-1 semi final (home) CL loss which was Ajax against Panathinaikos back in 1996

Ajax are the third team to win their round of 16, quarter-final and semi-final away game in a Champions League season, after FC Bayern in 2012-13 and Real Madrid in 2017-18 both Bayern and Real went on to to win the CL.

And the Spurs have played 11 games in the CL this season and have yet to lead at halftime. COYS

the most nervous I've ever been for a Tottenham game is a tie between before Chelsea (A) 2012/13 and Sunderland (H) the same season (last game of the season).

For all the world I thought we were going to win at stamford bridge and get 4th that season.

I've never been as nervous for a game since. Even when we've been pushing for much more important things. It might be that Ive got perspective now, I'm not sure. I beleive we can beat Ajax tonight. I just understand that it's been a slog of a season where Poch has had to make things up as he went along. This team should be nowhere near a champions league semi-final. We've been toeing a fine line between success and abject disaster that we've just about managed to get on the right side of. Despite all the all the ludicrous things this season, we've done alright.

The players should realise this is the last match. They need to leave it all in Amsterdam tonight.

So this game is to determine 3rd place right?

Because surely the Dippers v Barca yesterday was the final. Even Ray Hudson who sucks off Messi every chance he can get, was raving this morning about how Majesterial the Dippers were and how Klopp is the most loved manager in the history of ever.

Boys, us older heads had to tolerate virtually two solid decades (70s & 80s) of the Liverpool love in from the media......and even though they haven't won the tiltle for 30 years it persists.....that is why the vast majority of us absolutely detest them with a passion.

also, i don't know if i can deal with the pain of winning this match, let alone losing. Imagine we go two up in the first half. Can you imagine the tension for the rest of the match?

Two legged knockout football is a special kind of hell. Especially with all the comebacks that have been going on in recent seasons. Right now it feels like no scoreline is safe in the CL. No tie is over until the final whistle of the second leg. Even when we won comprehensively against Dortmund, the first half of the second leg was torture.

I, and most others on this forum, died multiple times watching the second leg against City. In some ways i'm glad we have a deficit going into this game. It means we have nothing to lose and the pressure is on Ajax.

I was explaining this to a young un(i say young,he is 30...) at work today. The media love in back then was unbearable, and you know its still there ,just waiting to go all over board once again .
I remember after Heysel, the club made a statement blaming the trouble of national front Supporters of West ham and Chelsea...Not one person in the media picked them up on it. And the club have never retracted that comment. They were beyond criticism over anything.

I have never looked too much into Heysel (or Hillsborough) because I feel it's something really sensible and people should not die at a football game, but honestly were Liverpool fans really at fault for Heysel?

As someone who wasn't alive in the 70s or 80s, i can confirm that you need no experience of Liverpool in their heyday in order to detest them with a passion.

Liverpool fans are the most smug, sanctimonious, fart-huffing twats in football. They deserve stuff because they are liverpool, and as a football club they are morally better than all the others. Young fans who have never seen them win a title exude this as much as any of the older ones. And the media bias is obvious, blatant and skin-crawlingly irritating. I came to realise all these things in the 2013/14 season, where the media were noshing off liverpool from day one and instantly calling them title contenders (they do this every time liverpool open the season with a win).

The worst thing is, Liverpool fans don't understand why everyone hates them. They genuinely cannot fathom how anyone could dislike their club. That is their entire problem.

The worst thing is that that attitude creates ridiculous belief and atmosphere, as seen yesterday.
