Can we just sign Jarrod Bowen to cover Kane? Seems too simple?

‘No player in this season’s Championship has been involved in more goals than Jarrod Bowen. Nor has any player scored more goals in the second tier since the start of the 2017-18 campaign than his 52 from 122 appearances.

Quite a double for someone playing for a club whose time in the play-off places over those two and a half years amounts to just 17 days.’

In the summer of 2018/19 we were doing business based on a revenue of 280m at the time a club record, as so many on these transfer pages like to point out we bought nobody. In 2019/20 we were doing business on the back of 380m again a club record and we allocated 114m to new players.

This year we will have just seen our revenues rise to 459m we will be doing business on the back of revenue's only previously dreamt about ...... I can't wait for this summer.

You can only spend what you earn, well we earned a shed-load, I've backed the club's careful financial polices for years whilst we languished miles behind our rivals, but now thanks to the brilliant infrastructure strategy of the last decade, we have caught and passed both Woolwich and Chelsea ... maybe not City, Utd and Liverpool levels yet but still time to splash the cash.

Let's not go crazy in the overpriced January window but this summer 2,000 pages on the transfer thread has to be a given ... and not all just moaning about nothing happening.

we didn’t spend £114m, you can’t account GLC in last summer as it, (minus the loan fee) would come from the next budget surely?

Appreciate your optimism but it is wildly unfounded imho. Levy will know by then that the revenue for the following year will go backwards due to no champs league, and lower tv revenues (less popular, fewer games). Meaning he’ll reduce the transfer kitty.

Thinking we’ll spend big is really kidding yourself. that will never happen with Levy.

Don't know, things are a changing and if this front loaded naming right goes through we might see some serious action. What we could be left with ("The Facebook stadium"........) could be fun.

Totally off topic, why the fuck did we sign up with Nike? Was it more money up front as we certainly don't benefit from their distribution chain. The number of Nike stores I've been in and seen Chav tops and such but never once seen a Spurs top. Was that another big up front, but treated like shit?

Not how it works, without signing off on that £114m spend there would be no LoCelso, all transfers are amortised anyway and many are paid off in weird instalments, the headline number is the amount allocated so Poch get's to use the players it relates to - we may have only paid 10% of the fee up front but Poch got 100% of the player to utilise ...

I admit it's pure optimism and goes against all know form ... but if we don't spend on the squad then 100% we will go backwards ... that's a near certainty which even Levy must get.

No, the loan fee would go against last year but not the potential purchase fee. That’s plain wrong, sorry.

I do like the unfounded optimism though! 👍

We could but when Kane comes back from injury what then? If Kane is fit he plays unless Bowen can be a serious challenger for his spot.

Bowen is not an out and out striker. He's a winger operating on the right. So there is still logic in getting him since he could be rotation with Lucas. But he would not be the backup for Kane we need. He's not a number 9.

Rather get Tanganga to sign a new contract than buy in Umtiti. The money could be spent better elsewhere like a DM and RB.

I think we can all agree that Levy is quite an astute businessman. He knows what he is doing.
If you take a look at the Football Money league figures, you'd see that as recently as 2015 our total revenue was 258 mil EUR.
Last season our broadcast revenue alone was 277 milEUR and total revenue 521 mil. During this period we have more than doubled our revenues and significant part in it has been down to our results.
During the same period where were our close competitors -Chelsea revenue was 420 mEUR; Woolwich 436 mEUR; Dortmund was ahead of us with 281 mEUR. Now we have surpassed all them based on last season figures.
Growth from 2015 to 2019 -
Tottenham - 263 million

Dortmund - 96 million
Chelsea - 93 million
Woolwich - 10 million

So our 3 close competitors grew their revenue by 199 mil COMBINED while we alone have added 263 million to the revenue.
We were in different ball-park than Woolwich back then, but within 4 years we have doubled our revenue, they have been standing still and we have surpassed them financially.

Now you can make an assumption that sensible businessman just shrugs his shoulders and accepts that "fuck it, we had it good but now we are going to see falling revenues and there is nothing we can do here"... OR alternative is that for the future growth to invest, and keep the success story going. You surely can assume that he is actually bad at business side of things and let's us fall down again. I don't think it's gonna happen.

P.S - while we are unlikely to replicate our CL run to final, there are at least 2 significant additional revenue factors for next year -
1) First full season in new stadium (larger amount of tickets sold including more VIP places making the impact proportionally bigger; and on top of that all the additional events that will influence the cashflow - NFL games, concerts etc)
2) Naming rights of the stadium still not in place.

Our broadcasting revenue with regular CL seasons was ~223 m EUR; with final 277 m EUR - so difference was ~55 mil EUR. This season we already are in playoffs, so this roughly 225 mil we should get anyway. And you know what? Those 2 positive factors absolutely can bump our revenue by around 55 mil EUR.

So, I would not say that optimism in our situation would be "unfounded". I think we are in quite strong position.
And I see a business case to significantly invest into our team.
