The factors that make the Kane backup situation particularly troublesome for us are 1. when healthy, Kane insists upon playing every minute of every game and 2. the club disregards the cups

Change those two things and all of a sudden the role of someone spelling Kane becomes more appealing.

Maybe we now have a manager who might stand up to the player and not let that happen. But only if he has other options.

Buy a striker we get a European place, don’t buy one and we won’t. It’s that simple. Up to the club what we want.

We do need someone yes but at what budget do we think it's good to fork out at? Any more than £30m-£35m with the investment we require elsewhere and I think we're blowing too much on one. Jose spoke of a target man so a big old hustler seems to be on the agenda but I sit too sure who :s

We have a shed-load of #8s(*) with all varying skillsets; we desperately need a boss DM to unlock them to do whatever it is they are tasked with doing.... Of course a prime Dembele may prove un upgrade upon all of them, but if we're still chasing the ideal replacement in the trf window then we're barking up the wrong tree.

(*) Ndombele
Lo-Celso
Fernandez
Winks
Sissoko
+ Dele, Eriksen.

We lack a conductor and a destroyer

Modric/dembele to dictate

Wanyama/sandro to bully

Weve too many number 8s like u say. A team.of david silvas.

He chose the team that was the most suitable for his career path. Fair play to him.

Well that's very much been my point all along. Which was a sentiment very much missing from your opening salvo....

I see Borussia Dortmund as a direct rival to us in terms of signing up the best talents. We’re very similar as clubs and should give the talents a decent chance to make them selves up.

Of course we would never know if we actually had a chance, but we should have been there in the race to give him an offer. It’s time for us to behave as a big club.

Looks, it's blatantly obvious why he's there. They had a #1ST spot to offer him and there's a for sale clause that'll mean his path to one of the uber-clubs is not blocked.

Being a feeder club to the richest is not the kind of "big club" status I'm particularly keen to revisit tbh.....

"Of course we would never know if we actually had a chance"

Well you started off by implying very much the opposite(*)... That's why I responded.

(*As does you're identical post in the 'other matches' thread a few minutes back.)

I cant understand how we can penny pinch on a second striker.

What happens if kane is injured ie now

But also when we need to chase the game or turn a score around?

I find it amazing we can have backups in every other position but not the most important

Well, by all accounts, that amount would get us Piatek.

We have CL, FA Cup and European football to play for. How we approach that is 100% on Levy and Enic.

If, instead, we spend the rest of the window trying to call Inter’s bluff on a few extra million for Eriksen then we can only assume they are happy to forgo the rest of the season.

Reasonable.

And why wouldn't Eriksen agree to it?

Hell, even though he is very poor he still plays each and every game. So he will get both a bigger sign on fee - like, say 15m - and go to the Euros with Denmark.

We should have dropped him this summer.

He'd have been out in 1st of january, possibly in august for a big fee.

Another mismanagment.

Ndombele aint either of those

Hes a box to box

So was Dembele.... He certainly wasn't a DLP a la Modric. He broke the oppo press and created time for our creative players to play. You might wanna argue that, with more of a passing game, Ndombele is a mix of the two, but we always set up as follows:

Dier/Wanyama (6) + Dembele (8) regardless of whether we played 4 or 5 at the back.

It's a tough one for sure as we do need depth yet but we have Kane who ain't getting dropped on a consistent basis let's be honest and we have a really promising striker in Parrott we need to ensure we don't stifle with a lot of congestion mid to long term.

Honestly I'd rather see us stump up a bit for a loan deal. Not sure if that Arp kid that ended up at Bayern is getting minutes but if someone like that is available until the endnote of the season is or Mariano at Real Madrid etc I'd probably rather see us go for that.

If Parrott wasn't waiting in the wings (pun absolutely intended) I'd like to see us go heavy but I wouldn't want it to come at the detriment of a really promising HG player getting the long term exposure he may require. I do think we'll end up with Piatek though and I'd be happy with that. I'd have no complaints if we do.

It’s not about being a feeder club.

You and I know well that we would have the resources to keep him longer than Dortmund and maybe fufill our ambitions to chase big trophies.

If we are not going to sign the big talents, who the fuck are we going to sign? The next best ones and hope for the best?

What is our ambitions really?
