If offered one of Van Der Beek and Jack Grealish now, honestly I would sway towards Grealish but that's just me based on what I know about both players. Seen plenty of Jack, not a lot of Donny so I can't say for certain.

On the Van Der Beek thing. If we were willing to pay £25m for Grealish at the time and opted agains the £15m for Van Der Beek and £20m it was for Maddison to go to Leicester. Who do we point the finger at regarding said targets?

Apparently if you buy a multi bag of cheese and onion Walkers box of 24 crisps you get Grealish.

If you buy 20 or less you get Van Der Beek.

I expect we will be saying the same about Farhad Moshiri in a decade's time, that's my point.

They're in their Glenn Hoddle, Helder Postiga period. That's part of the development of ambitious, forward-thinking ownership. The City sheikhs bought Robinho on day 1.

Gotcha.... Equally, we're entering an unprecedented period for our club too.

Trust me, in X-amout of years, if we're sat on a huge lump of un-invested cash or the accounts show huge dividend withdrawals I'll be right there with my pitchfork.

One other thing about the period where ENIC really started to gain traction at Spurs, they were bringing in shedloads of new players every summer.

Huddlestone, Stalteri, Lennon, Tainio, Routledge, Davids, Lee Young-Pyo, Jenas and Rasiak in Summer 05, then BAE, Zokora, Berbatov, Mido, Malbranque and Chimbonda in Summer 06.

Can we not just get Luis Campos considering Jose has said he would welcome the chance to work with him? Surely shouldn’t be too hard for a club of our size to get the DoF from Lille regardless of the financial implications for them.

He’s found and flipped Mbappe, Bernardo Silva, Martial, Pepe etc and soon to do the same with Soumare.

He would be the vital link between keeping someone who wants top talent to manage happy as well as a chairman who wants to be self sustaining.

Absolute no brainer.

To be clear, I'm optimistic the club will spend money, not necessarily that it will translate into the success we've seen in recent years. We've been flying miles above our man-for-man quality level, and some of the best of those guys are aging out of their primes.

And yeah, we definitely invested in the summer, and landed some impressive targets, at least one of which (Ndombele) looks the kind of player you can build a team around.

I'm hopeful, I wouldn't say confident, but hopeful.

But some of the narratives that have sprouted up around Levy and especially Poch vis a vis Levy really chap my ass.

I can't think of a single instance where Levy has spent a bundle on a player who's worked out a success?

Anyone name one?
