My opinion of Carrol was always that he was a tidy technically proficient footballer, but he lacked the mentality to impose himself on games. But at least he got a fair chance, we got to learn that, he never shat the bed (certainly no worse than some, he never cost us a CL final for example) and we ended up pocketing 5m net.
