Dear god. Just heard some options being discussed.

1. No corners (to avoid overcrowding in the area). Ball will be returned to halfway line.
2. No player allowed to approach or talk to officials. Instant yellow card.
3. Group goal celebrations will result in instant red card for each player involved.
4. Spitting will result in Red Card and will be VAR enforced.
5. Anti Bacterial towels will be provided to players taking a throw in

Sounds like fun. Maybe they should just play FIFA and we can watch that.

BT Sport the place to be this weekend.

So apparently the players need to sign some kind of waver before the league returns....

I wonder what Danny's take on this is......? :roseunsure:

Just give the Dippers the title and cancel the season.

FFS.

It's not 100%, I think?

Who will finish where in the final table?
It is understood League Two clubs want to use a weighted points-per-game system to finalise the table, which takes into account the average points won both home and away.

That method is intended to remove any bias towards sides who have played more home games than their rivals.

It has also been proposed that nobody will be relegated from League Two to the National League - meaning Stevenage, who are set to stay bottom of the table, would remain in the EFL.

At the top, Swindon Town would overtake Crewe Alexandra to claim the title, with Plymouth Argyle staying in the third and final automatic promotion spot.

The four teams currently in the play-offs - Exeter City, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United and Northampton Town - would remain there, but Cheltenham would move above Exeter and into fourth.

Stevenage owner Phil Wallace told BBC Sport: "My preference is to finish the league so we have the opportunity to play our way out of trouble.

"We have 10 games to play and are three points behind, with a game in hand, why should I think it was not possible to get out of it?

"The League Two clubs cannot decide this. We can only tell the EFL of their indicative position but that is the collective view.

"It would cost us £140,000 for the tests, we would have to bring players out of furlough and comply with a 47-page health and safety document regarding sterilisation of stadiums etc.

"I don't know what this would mean for the National League."

Why can't they restart?
Attempting to resume the League One and League Two campaigns was always likely to to be more difficult than in the Championship and Premier League, which could begin again in mid-June behind closed doors.

Many clubs in the third and fourth tiers have furloughed their players and, with no crowds allowed into stadiums for the foreseeable future, it would cost them money to stage games.

EFL chairman Rick Parry has also said 1,400 players across the league's three divisions are out of contract on 30 June. The majority of those players are in League One and League Two.

The National League decided to end its three divisions immediately on 22 April but they were waiting on the EFL to announce an outcome before deciding on promotion and relegation.

To be fair, irrespective of global pandemic 2 and 4 should be in practice.

Anyway, someone has done some calcs to see what would happen if season was curtailed and points for remaining games awarded on a points per game basis, taking into account home and away points per game.

The result is that West Ham would be relegated!

Knowing this, how many here would support that proposal?

If the clubs know that that is the alternative way to finish the season....... Why on earth would Watford et al want to play any games?

Surely if they keep objecting along with a few others the season can't be restarted and they'd stay up?

Does the decision not need to be unanimous from all clubs?

Two thirds majority I think?

Exactly. Which is why West Ham’s insistence on non-neutral venues is strange. I would expect them to take any offer on completing the season. They could be the ones to lose out big time.

Clubs will dress up their interests as principle, but they are definitely looking out for themselves.

Of course they are.

They should add an element of chance into how the season is decided otherwise there's no incentive for the clubs who will be alright in the relegation scrap or scrap for Europe places to even bother - they'll just object if they know the methodology before hand.

Clubs will still be promoted and relegated from the three divisions of the English Football League if seasons are ended amid the coronavirus crisis.

Play-offs will also be played, but with no more than four teams.

The EFL has confirmed that 51% of clubs in either the Championship, League One or League Two need to agree for a campaign to be curtailed.

This could pave the way for the League One season to be cancelled, with teams currently split over a resolution.

Talks last week stalled after at least six clubs in the third tier, including Sunderland, Portsmouth and Ipswich Town, said they wanted to continue the season.

Coronavirus: Man Utd say pandemic has cost them £28m so far
By Simon Stone

Manchester United say the coronavirus pandemic has cost them an initial £28m - and expect the final figure to be far higher.

United revealed their third-quarter results to 31 March on Thursday.

Chief financial officer Cliff Baty said they are set to hand back £20m in TV revenue to broadcasters even if the Premier League season is completed.

United lost an additional £8m over the final three weeks of March, when they had three matches postponed.

A total of 11 United matches have been postponed because of the pandemic.

Speaking in a conference call after the latest financial results were released, Baty explained that Premier League television broadcasters would get £20m back from the club because of changes in dates and kick-off times resulting from the pandemic.

With games called off - including matches in the Europa League and FA Cup - Baty said that sponsorship revenues had "contracted", and that retail sales had been "impacted" with the club store at Old Trafford still closed.

He added that matchday revenues were "significantly impacted", with an acceptance games will be played behind closed doors for the foreseeable future.

Postponement of Tottenham game 'cost £4m'

United have refused to put a figure on what the anticipated overall financial cost of the pandemic will be ultimately - but executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward said the major burden would fall in the current quarter, which runs to 30 June.

"Our third-quarter results reflect a partial impact that the pandemic has had on the club but the greater impact will be in the current quarter and likely beyond," said Woodward.

Revenues for the quarter fell by 18.7% to £123.7m. The club's debt rose by £124.4m to £429.1m.
Baty said the postponement of the Premier League trip to Tottenham on 15 March cost United £4m alone.
"These are unprecedented times and we must recognise that this crisis will not disappear overnight," said Woodward.

"However, our club is built on a solid foundation. We remain firmly optimistic about the long-term prospects for the club once we have worked our way through what is undoubtedly one of the most extraordinary and testing periods in the 142-year history of Manchester United."
