If you look at it objectively: is there a better club than Spurs for Campos to come in and ply his trade at?

Putting aside his close relationship with José, we have the best training ground, best stadium, play in the biggest league (something he hasn't done yet) and have a squad littered with some world class talent (Kane, Son) and young players with high potential (Lo Celso, Gedson, Tanganga, Ndombele).

The missing piece is to identify young and affordable transfer targets in a post-covid-19 market to complete/balance the squad. Something his previous quotes indicate he'd relish.

Surely it's the perfect project for him.
In England, no. Outside of England, probably, depending on his preferences. But considering the relationship with Jose and the the opportunity to take a highly recognized club to another level is probably extremely tempting.

I will find it very amusing when Spurs start buying a bunch of £5-15m players that no one has heard of and half this board goes apoplectic at Levy because we aren't spending enough on transfers even though that is Campos's modus operandi. If he can apply that same logic to larger signings then we'll cooking with gas.

If he can find players early and get them for a good price then fine, but that will need to be supplemented with the odd ready made star similar to what utd used to do.
But if he moves to England then once the rest of the footballing world know, any moves for players and the price will not be the same as the French clubs pay, but all in all if it happens hopefully it will work out.

Correct, but that is a nuanced, medium term strategy that takes a couple years to develop and payoff. But middle ground doesn't seem to exist in this debate anymore.

To put this in some perspective.

Julien is a French journalist operating out of London. He doesn't seem to have many connections within French clubs as he is more of a "general" journalist.

To counter point Julien's claim both Portugese RTP (Portugals public broadcasting) and La Voix du Norde are reporting that he is looking to join up with us. La Voix du Norde are a local newspaper in Lille with connections within the club. So their word in particular should carry some weight.

But we should still of course hold of on celebrating until when/if he is announced.

....Bit late for that mate; I've already had his name tattooed down the length(*)of my 'chap'.

(*middle name included. :townhmm: )

All of these tweets are worded just so .

Campos has given Lille notice of something, maybe that he wants changes, more likely he wants to leave, and that clubs would be interested in hiring him if he does leave, but nothing official has taken place because he is still at Lille.

It's very mealy mouthed at this point.

Campos is a Mourinho ally and worked wonders in France. Is...

The word is certainly out that Campos wants to join Tottenham, although with no agreement in place there is a theory that this is just a political game he is playing with Lille. He is also in talks with their owner Gerard Lopez about a new deal, although with manager Christophe Galtier also linked with Marseille, the club is in a state of flux.

Campos also has a good offer to go back to Monaco, where he was so successful in the early days of Dmitry Rybolovlev’s ownership. That spell, along with his lower-profile but still impressive work at Lille, help to explain why he is one of the most in-demand recruitment specialists in football.

...

Campos left Monaco during that 2016-17 season to start working for Lille, after Gerard Lopez bought the club. One of Campos’ first moves was to bring with him a then little-known opposition analyst named Joao Sacramento. But it was a difficult start, and 2017 was dominated by an explosive row between Campos and coach Marcelo Bielsa. Campos won, and Bielsa left the club after just 13 games in charge.

...

Integral to how Campos works at Lille is that Galtier will use the players Campos signs. Campos and Bielsa, now at Championship leaders Leeds United, had butted heads but that does not happen anymore.

“The difference when Campos goes and gets a player, is that the coach then trusts that player,” Hayes explains. “So a kid like Ikone, who had played around 15 games a season for Montpellier — he was still learning the ropes. But as soon as he arrived at Lille, he might only have been 20, but that’s it, he plays. So he (Galtier) really trusts in the players and throws them in. It was the same with Bamba, he turned up at 22, he’d had a full season at Saint-Etienne, but he just threw him in and kept him going.”

...

For Levy to appoint a director of football as powerful as Campos would effectively be to hand over much of that power to a new figure at the club. And in doing so it would hugely increase Mourinho’s power. Because it was Mourinho who gave Campos — previously a manager of modest Portuguese clubs — his career break, bringing him onto his Real Madrid staff almost 10 years ago.

Depends - if he wants easy money then he'd go to Newcastle.......improving their squad will be like painting by numbers

I think Campos will arrive on deadline day. Last-minute Levy special

"Welcome aboard, Luis. IT haven't got any spare desktop PC's but there is an internet cafe not far from here I think. Anyway, the transfer window closes in 12 hours so looks like you'll be thrown in at the deep end to show us what you can do. Hot water for tea or coffee is free but you'll have to label your own milk and teabags. There is a leaving card for Phil from accounts and we also need a defensive midfielder on a free. All the best."
