Transfers Summer 2020 Transfer Thread

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Comparing us to Chelsea is needless. They are well ahead of us. Since we last won a trophy they have won 3 league titles, a Champions League, 2 Europa Leagues, 3 FA cups and a League cup. They are lightyears ahead of us.

We consider success as finishing in the top 4 and reaching a final, Chelsea sack managers the same season as winning the Europa League, winning the FA Cup or even winning the double.

Ambramovic is an owner who is willing to pump money into the club and isn't bothered by it. He spent £35m on Danny Drinkwater and didnt bat an eyelid. He'll happily go and spend £150-200m this summer and won't lose any sleep. He knows what means success, which is different to our owner and chairman.

We have a different model, and very much more buy young and sell for profit. Lewis isn't bothered. He owns the company, that owns the company that owns Tottenham..

And before anyone starts saying I'm pessimistic, I'm not. I'm a realist. I'm proud of my club, but I also want us to go to a new level, otherwise we'll end up going back way before we go forward.
Agreed. ENIC & levy etc have clearly taken us as far as they are capable of & as far as they are willing to. Time for them to admit defeat & let someone else have a go at taking us to the next level. When your chairman believes there is little correlation between money spent & winning then you will never become winners.

No they wouldn't

But I wouldn't want to be where they are with how they've achieved it. They are everything wrong with football. Even had a gooner I know text me after Ajax away that our comeback to make the final is more special and will mean more to us than any of their bought success Chelsea or City have got, and I agree with him. Nothing will take away the memory I have of that night. Utter euphoria.
They achieved it by buying the best players to win the best prizes, which is how football works. Not every club is lucky enough to bring through a Lionel Messi from their academy, and even there they have still bought the likes of Suarez, Neymar, De Jong and Greizmann to achieve.

I love that we have bought through the likes of Kane, Dele, Vertonghen and others for low/no fees and made them better, but what does that win us? Kane will be off if we dont win a trophy next season, Walker already did that. The likes of Lo Celso and Ndombele will be the same if they dont win silverware.

Football is a short career, would a player rather wait 18 years to win a league cup or be winning the PL every other season and other domestic trophies?

Mate, ENIC are going nowhere. They have set up a model which floods in the revenue. Over the past 3 years they have made over £1b on revenue, why would they give that up?

The figures show £1.115billion of revenue came in to Spurs across those three years. During the same time, Spurs spent £452.72million on staff costs, which was the sixth highest in the Premier League. However, those staff costs made up a 39.33 per cent ratio of the club's revenue.

The only way they go is if someone like Amazon, Alphabet or another world leading business comes in with a huge offer, I'm talking £1b.

Hopefully those owners are more interested in winning trophies than fattening up their pockets

It wasnt before the introduction of transfer windows, so why would it be now?

Before there was no window period; so teams weren't obliged to get their business done during one concentrated mass of world-wide buying and selling... Clubs and players alike were also already in tune with this so it didn't pose the same kind of distraction it would as an anomaly.

Sadly you're right. We will probably be stuck with ENIC & no success for at least another decade :pochsulk:

Yes. Absolutely yes.

Why wouldn't a football fan like to see thei club succesful.

A question for you ,friend. Do you think most Chelsea and City fans would rather be like us?

A simple yes or no.
To be honest, I wouldn't. I'd rather be like we are, or even worse, than sell my soul to the devil. The best thing about Spurs is that throughout history we've been one of the cleanest clubs in history. No shady deals, no favours, almost no scandals etc.

No. They did it buy buying a cheat code to win their place at the top.

I don’t want oil money or any other dirty money and empty cheque book

Yes - I want us to win trophies like our rivals

Exactly. Any Spurs fan on their high horse talking about Chelsea and city doing it the wrong way are just extremely envious of success. They watch their clubs win titles and trophies. If we can be half of what they are, I’ll be happy. I want our club to start winning stuff. Getting top 4 isn’t success, some Spurs fans really need that drummed into their heads.

Those that are to some degree content with their club are the ones exhibiting jealousy and envy and those that wish they were like Chavs/City aren't??????

Utterly ridiculous!!!

You would disagree wouldn’t you. Specialist in supporting failure and thankfully you are a rarity on here. If being content is watching your rivals win trophies every season, whilst our club wins sweet FA, then you really are easily pleased. Most Spurs fans are fed up.

I disagreed because your assertion was bullshit.

Whatever.... Make a coherent, informed argument and you might have a leg to stand on.

"Most Spurs fans are fed up." - So say you....
