Trippier used to cross:

- Whether there was a cross on or not.
- As a means of getting rid of the ball cos he refused to try and beat a man.
- The majority of the time early from deep where it would get calmly gobbled up by the two CBs sat by default in the D on the edge of the box.
That's EXACTLY what I've always said. His numbers attest to this 109 more crosses than Aurier in just 51 games!!!

It wasn't he refused to beat a man, he couldn't beat a man. Just also take a look at the volume of backwards passes he made to attest to this. This happened when he was pressed. So, what we did with him to get him up the pitch was to play a ball behind down the line for him to run onto, I suggest that the reason for his crosses to be so inaccurate (again, crossing is low percentage anyway, for ALL players) was to cross quickly, often first time or before he was closed down only adding to the difficulty and hence despite 109 more crosses than Aurier he assisted so few from them.

And yes, he also used to cross early from deep, another waste, and this puts huge pressure on the team as it meant we conceded possession cheaply and whilst committing men forward in an effort to get on the end of these balls, meaning we could be counter-attacked with players out of position. Many other reasons why we started to concede so many shots on our goal but this was a huge contributory factor.

He was highly effective at playing a short ball around the corner or between LB and CB, this was a well-rehearsed move for us and something he should have focused more on. It pulled oppo out of position and our attacking players could exploit the space it left.

That was why I didn't rate Trippier either.
His crossing ability was always be overrated. I admit he had good performance in World Cup for England. But that was not the case in his last season with us.

It was never the case with us. His crossing reputation was built off performances against Hull and Watford where he did assist I think 3 or 4 goals form crosses (a last min winner against Watford for Son always feeds the narrative in the euphoria that follows). His performances in the World Cup were excellent.

A good cross into the opposition box generally finds one of our players and clears the defences first man

Aurier's usually doesn’t
No, they don't Baz. Crosses are LOW percentage of opportunities.

But from a low percentage opportunity Aurier has the 2nd highest number of assists from crosses in open play, 1 less than Doherty. So what do you think of the other FB's crossing ability? From open play he has DOUBLE the number of assist from crosses as TAA!!!

It seems that the same people complaining about Auirer's crossing are the same who bang on about "not beating first man" corners, whilst completly ignoring the fact that 97% of corners result in no goals. BECAUSE THEY TOO ARE LOW FUCKING PERCENTAGE!!!

How fucking thick is everyone? Christ on a bike!!

No need to get abusive

All I said was a good cross finds a team mate
Not difficult to understand

Perhaps 97% or whatever if corners don’t result in goals is because many don’t clear the first man

But I don’t rate Aurier because he’s a shit footballer imv
Much worse than Sissoko imv
Although equally strong and athletic

First one out the door hopefully while Jose rebuilds

Thankfully we have him as our manager imv

No abuse aimed at you Baz, it's a collective.

People complaining about not converting corners or crosses when they are in isolation the lowest % of opportunities. How you don't see the irony is beyond me. Not least when the same people vent at one of the best (still low %) at executing it is utterly mindblowing.

Do you think Kane is shit at scoring goals?

I see.

So, how does one determine what a good cross is?
What is a direct correlation for determining how good of a crosser a player is?

It's conceivable that I don't understand what a good cross is... perhaps you could provide an example or two of a "good crosser of the ball"... shouldn't be difficult as you seem to think that there are at least 15 better RBs in the PL .

What are the metrics you use to determine who is and who isn't "garbage offensively"?

I think it is fairly easy to see who is a good crosser and who is not. Not sure why you are trying to make this so hard. Aurier is not very good, every rational Tottenham fan can see it. And I really don't care if it is the main strategy of the team or not, it still is a skill that a FB should have and Aurier does not.

As for who is a good crosser of the ball I would say both Liverpool FBs, both Leicester FB's, Azpulicueta is good when I watch Chelsea.

Fair enough

I love Harry and was delighted on Tuesday
He might have lost a bit of pace but you could have put your mortgage on him scoring that after Coco put him through
Hastens Spam going back to their rightful place!!

One of the most encouraging things I saw from Kane was his sprint (from the halfway line) into the box for the counter-attack we had, the one he just put past the post! Not since Dortmund have we seen him sprint as fast and that distance. There were no ill effects on his hamstring too which was fantastic to see and bodes well.

Would like to give both the thumbs up and laugh to this

"Good crossing" isn't that important. Which should be apparent, as Aurier, a league leader for fullbacks in assists, is, according to "rational Spurs fans," "shite at it".

It's an outdated (particularly) English football fetish.

Azpilicueta (2x PL champ) is one of the best PL defenders this past decade.
TAA is valued at £99 Million (per TransferMarkt)
Robertson is valued at £64 Million (per TransferMarkt)

Chilwell (£40 Million) and Pereira (£32 Million) were the starting fullbacks for a side that finished 9th last season with +3 goal differential, whose individual offensive stats are comparable with Aurier's.

I'm a huge fan of Pereira's... I hope he recovers from his injury, and Chilwell would probably be an upgrade on our LBs to be fair.

Again why you think assists have anything to do with crossing is beyond me.

i also don't get why you think Aurier having the ball in the opposition half and giving it away to the opposition rather than creating a chance for us to score isn't a big deal.

Also great for those valuations of those players you asked for 5 so I gave you the guys off the top of my head if you want a list of all the better FBs I can do that as well.

If I understand you correctly, you're saying that Aurier is shite at crossing, but you can't really explain why or what quantifies a "good cross", you just know it when you see it.

Kinda like "good porn".

Not sure how you got that from what I said.

I would say one of the best qualities of a good cross is to get it past the first man which is something that Aurier struggles with, putting it in an area the your players are rather than blasting over everyone's head is another good quality which again Aurier struggles with and finally, not just putting up a soft floating ball that is easily grabbed by the keeper would be another quality that I would look for, i haven't notice Aurier doing this as much so good for him.
