Supposedly there are two clauses - buy-back and pre-emption. I don’t really understand how both can exist together except in the way I laid out. Of course, I am probably missing something.

If both exist, I’d imagine the buy-back expires at some point during the deal. The pre-emption exists primarily to give RM some option after the buy-back clause expiry.

Yeah that's what I was thinking.

Madrid gets something that can actually help them in addition to money for Bale, which is a coup for them, and on cheap wages by their standards.

Spurs get Bale, and give Dele a year abroad in a pressure environment to hopefully grow the fuck up.

Will Dele say yes?
I look forward to seeing Dele showing us how to cook a fine paella on his new reality show.

He'd also probably end up slashing an artery whilst shaving his legs Marco Asensio & Phil Neville-style, as he adapted to local customs.

I think Jose likes Dele a lot it's just he has become frustrated as the rest of us have at Dele's decline

He has def declined, but we have dramatically changed the way we use him. That little run he had after Jose first got here showed what he offers, but he is a player that needs a manager to use him a certain way.

A lot of people compare him to Mueller, which I get a lot. Two oddly technical players that don't have the purest of strikes, the pace, or the dribbling ability, but have this ability to make things happen. Many thought Mueller was done and then Flick came in and changed everything for the man.
