Lo Celso is a very good defender - his pressure/regains/tackles are all super high for a midfielder. Ndombele was also above average defensively for a CM at Lyon as well. If the later can actually stay healthy there's no reason why Lo Celso and Ndombele can't be on the pitch at the same time.

I wouldn't go that far. He works hard and puts a shift in but he just fouls in dangerous areas every game he plays deep. His tackling is very rash and risky to be honest.
Ndombele's defensive work rate was very inconsistent at Lyon. He isn't reliable. Needs to play further forward imo.

The truth of the matter is that we could have had a yet unsigned Bale and Reguilon watching us getting knocked out of the Europa league tonight and thinking "Hang on a minute".
This was an opportunity to show those two that they were joining a squad full of promise and potential, not one that was fucking desperate for an injection of confidence and positivity.
