Actually, it's pretty much the inverse. Kane and Son are both top-5 most efficient finishers in Europe as measured by G/xG across six seasons. Clearly the tactics in the 2nd were to protect the lead and counter attack, but you can’t do that with the new handball rule now. You just have to assume a pen will be called against you at any time.

It’s rough though because we also have to preserve energy given the fixture list, so it’s a reasonable tactic that got foiled by an unreasonable rule.

When have we been good at sitting in a shell and holding onto a lead though? To pin this on the rule change is fine, but the bigger issue is just letting a team come back into the game and being okay with that.
