It depends what people want from a striker. I studied this guy hard earlier in the season in the CL. There is good and bad. Electric pace, so he'll give you that threat in behind/create anxiety in defenders, and he is happy to work his cock off when it comes to pressing. The flipside is that he is actually a relatively poor footballer, so things like ball control and link-play/awareness of his colleagues are not great. I did not look at his stats, but what I observed was a guy that was snatching at (and fluffing) goal-scoring opportunities when they came his way.

So, I think what you're looking at is a player in the mould of an Aubameyang or a Werner (and I am sure the goals will come again for Werner). Not without value. If they play for us, we look for the positives. If they play for Chelsea or Woolwich, we are laughing at them, and saying if they don't score, then they bring very little.

I have also gone back to review some of his play as I was a big proponent of going after him this last summer. The video below is a good recap of his goal and assist involvement, but obviously does not account for his whole game play.

As the video shows, he is rather good with both of his feet and has the ability to strike from distance, and is rather adept at being in the right place at the right time. He would be interested in our current side as in theory, Kane would have a field day finding him beyond the last man, but I don't feel he is a good fit for us until we get a coach that will play free, attacking football. Until we have that, I think all his strengths are more or less void because as you say, other parts of his game are lacking. His involvement in the build up needs a lot of work. He is not a true CF that will hold up play.

I actually like the Aubameyang comparison.

Van der Beek wants to leave Man U apparently - could work out for us, no?

Not a big fan to be honest, I don’t see him as the same ability level as Ndombele or Lo Celso, better than Winks yes but we need defenders more.

He did look ok at Ajax but Sanchez looked incredible there, that was just a well drilled team and why having a manager with good coaching and tactics can make players look far better.

Ok, you’ve proved your point by mentioning Sanchez... what was I thinking.

Hopefully next year we'll have a good coach with the ability to maximise what's at his disposal and not the current "Peri-peri Pulis" (Thank you once again whoever came up with that phrase!)

Peri Peri Pulis was on Twitter and someone reposted it here and I use it all the time, it’s fucking amazing comment.

Sounds delicious.

I think VdB is a very smart player tbh, works very hard, comfortable to receive the ball anywhere and a good goal threat. If he was available for 25m he'd be a great pick up.

With SU on their way down, I think this would be an opportunity to have a close look at Baldock. Despite the lousy season the team has had, he's been excellent. Might be just the person for RWB.

Honestly think people are completely deluded with regards to potential transfer spend. We’ve taken a revenue hit of c.250M, probably more. I would be staggered if we have a positive net spend, and I think we will have to pay squad players to leave early

28 years old with a mediocre back ground and pretty mediocre play overall in the Premier League seems like it would be another repeat of Doherty.

If we are going for average in our RB I would at least hope they would be young enough that we could get more than a year or two out of them before needing to replace them, although with Baldock we might need to replace as soon as we buy him.

It’s why we may need to take risks on using Rodon, on using Skipp on using Tanganga full time at right back on using Sessegnon when he comes back.

It really scares me how the line coming out of the club is that they will spend 0 money (so 0 net spend) and sell to buy.
I'm not gonna rant about the wrong's of this attitude and etc.. But I'm just wondering.

What should we do if we can only buy players with the money we could sell.

Anyone got any good ideas for a transfer plan?

Fuck knows. How much would the below get you in the transfer window?

Davies
Winks
Sissoko
Dier
Doherty

We got Skipp and Sessegnon back so we don’t have much to buy in the front or middle, maybe an additional AM. Really it’s just 2 CB’s and perhaps a right back. We got Kane, Son, Bale, Bergwijn, Lucas and Vinnie up top with PEH, Ndombele, Lo Celso, Lamela, Dele and Skipp in the middle. Most of the team is pretty decent.

I am far less worried about the transfer window. We don’t need a huge amount if we keep our best attackers and midfielders, we just need to upgrade the defence and get rid of a manager who doesn’t seem to know how to coach attacking football.
