Would there have been any value digging around Barca a little deeper to see what might have been available, they seem in all sorts of financial trouble.

Reading that the deal was terminated by mutual consent.... If that means we aren't paying the final year of his wages and he just gets to seek his own future elsewhere then fair's fair; not gonna talk shit on the guy.
1) He had offers elsewhere he and his agent rejected which denied the club a transfer fee
2) Mutual termination means we pay a lump sum to get rid now. So yes, we save on a year's wages....less the negotiated fee. We may well have agreed to pay 90% of that to get rid and be saving a meagre 10% (though I doubt it obviously!).

Just saying whilst I do agree to a certain extent,we have been play by him and his agent i feel. He gets a payoff from us and can seek a new club with a tasty signing on fee and new salary.
Win win for Serge ...

Look, I was so very supportive of ENIC/Levy only a few years ago (pre-Poch fiasco).

I even gave them the benefit of the doubt over screwing an over-achieving Harry redknapp over.

But when we see the cycle repeat itself over and over again, there's only so many times you can give the benefit of the doubt before it's clear naivety.

The outcome of this window was predictable, on the basis of looking at previous windows under the same ownership.

We cannot continue to be suckers for the club's narrative of "we've tried our best under the resource constraints but couldn't get deals over the line". Then proceed to pay the highest in season ticket prices and be expected to buy a brand new set of shirts every year.

Spurs had enough money (borrowing power) to spend ONE BILLION POUNDS on a stadium.

To people with their eyes closed, this comes across as baseless moaning, but these discussions need to be had to encourage critical thinking and objective analysis of the pattern that we find ourselves in.
We all need to see the path Of truth in our own time. Welcome aboard. For some it takes longer. Some remain blind. Others… to scared to open their eyes. Some get hay fever & others cut onions. Eye of the tiger.

His prerogative.

Could have paid anything between 0% & and 100%.... He likely has his eye on another club and a wage + signing on fee. We likely won't find out for sure; but the way things are being worded it certainly doesn't sound like we've merely paid his last year off.

Not enough dosh at play to get mad about...... Most here had nothing but hate for him and wanted him gone anyway..... We move on.

I’m not as down on this window as some people. If they had just held the Emerson news quiet until the last minute so it came a shock signing, some would be happier right now.

To be fair, it’s disappointing that we didn’t add one more attacking player, but I think we did some good things:

- Got bad wages off the books

- Landed the top defender in Serie A, and he’s young enough to anchor our defense for many years.

- Landed a promising attacking player in Gil. I think some are writing him off because he hasn’t started in the PL yet, but he’s another young player and he shows star potential. Gil could improve our MF this year if he plays there, could play on the wing, and at worst could carry us in Conference League.

- Landed a new right back to replace Aurier. Emerson is another young player with a bright future and seems to fit Nuno’s style well.

- picked up one of Europe’s top young MF talents in 18 year old Sarr. He won’t help this year, but this is the exact kind of signing we always lament other teams going after and us ignoring.

- Landed a very solid backup keeper in Gollini, who could slide in for Lloris next year. Big upgrade over Hart.

- AND WE KEPT HARRY F’ing KANE. If we had sold him for 100 million pounds like City wanted and bought Martinez for 75 million and some 25 million MF or wing, people here would be praising the additions. But Kane is better than having Kane and a middling MF or attacker.

Obviously I wished we closed Traore or KK or McKennie or one of the other attackers or MFs we were linked to, but I think this window sets up beautifully for the next few years - and maybe we can use that money we didn’t spend on Traore to bring someone else in January (by which time we should know which improved players are for real under Nuno (like is Sanchez’s improvement real, does Dele’s work rate make him a perfect fit or so we still need a creative MF there, can Skipp keep it up, is Moura/Bergwijn all we need on the wing, etc). At that point, maybe we can make the right purchase to improve the squad at the end.

Overall, I’d rate this wind a 7.5 or 8/10 because we improved the D, got younger and faster, cleared bad contracts, and kept Kane. Could have been a 9 if we added another attacker, but it’s still a very promising window to me.

Presumably seen as the better RB.
Definitely was the thinking. Tomiyasu is more like Tanganga in that he’s a CB who can play right back. My guess is when Tanganga played so well vs City, they decided we need another guy with his skill set.

That said, Emerson was about 10 million more than Tomiyasu. we could have rolled that savings into upping our Traore offer, so let’s hope the extra money for Emerson was the right call.

Agree, I'm not mad, I guess I'm neutral and your post made it sound like it was a fair play to the lad situation.
I'm more in the middle because if you believe multiple reports he had plenty of offers on the table and looked set to leave but has opted to be a free agent no doubt for financial reasons.
Like you say, he is perfectly within his rights to do that and we move on though!

Disaster of a transfer window in my opinion...
A goalkeeper we didn't need,
A young winger nobody had heard of who maybe decent in a few years.
A centre back who is apparently decent but who still has not really played and doesn't look like doing so for a while due to internationals and then quarantine after which he has another international break ...
A midfielder who is about 15 and again maybe one for the future, who has been loaned back to his French team .
And eventually a right back, who I am slightly concerned about as he is an unknown quantity and Barca happily gave him up with no buy back of anything....
So basically we still need a centre back and a midfielder and a striker just like we did before the transfer window opened.........
We have romero but gave up Toby....he should be playing with Toby...
