Yeah but you really are as you have acknowledged writing a critic of capitalism not football.
That's because football has now become a capitalist business. It's all based on money. Nothing wrong with making money A club has to survive and prosper. I understand that. But it shouldn't be the "raison d'etre" of a clubs existence. The fees these footballer are demanding are out of touch with reality. We really do need to start a salary cap of some type. Or the poorer clubs will cease to exist and we'll end up watching half a dozen teams play each other for a whole season
Sounds really exciting......

Entertainers of all forms get more money than doctos and nurses and blahblah. Thats the world we live in. Unlikely to change because you dont like it.
It just shows how incredibly stupid our priorities have become.
Let me know how your next visit to a Dr. goes....

What is the other choice then to capitalism?
For me, socialism, BUT, with an honest administration. 4 happiest countries at the last count were mostly Scandinavian. Socialism done properly. Anyway, this isn't the right thread for politics
Let's get back to football.

Scandinavia is Capitalist with just a bit more window dressing than most.

They're also small countries so I don't think their model can be exported to many larger countries.

Mixed economies are the norm in Europe some with a bit more socialist/worker rights and others with more free market. The direction of movement seems to be towards free market, the UK quicker than most.

Sweden is a social democracy but the level of state intervention and taxation would 100% have it called "socialist" in the United States.
Americans think anywhere with a state health service is a socialist nation

private enterprise thrives in Scandinavian countries

I’m aware it has further left leaning policy and it works well for them but it’s far from the socialist model

I think people confuse communism with socialism private enterprise and a mixed economy are perfectly in line with socialist principles. I think if anything the pandemic has made lots of folk realise unfettered free market economics isn't the panacea folk once thought. Any way sorry to the board for subverting the forum we'll take it outside.
