You have to take the opportunity of a lifetime, in the lifetime of the opportunity.
Kane does not want to be at Spurs.
City one of only 4 teams - United, Chelsea, PSG - that could afford him, wanted him.
Levy missed the opportunity.

How did Levy miss the opportunity when there wasn't one available? He can only sell if a good enough bid comes in. City's bid was too low and the others had no interest so didn't bid at all.
I genuinely don't understand how people can turn that against Levy. He's made some big mistakes over the years, but this isn't one of them.

I find it funny that even Spurs fans are writing off Kane.

we've all been here before early in the season....

Kane is a notoriously slow starter, he'll still bang 20 goals this year.

The next two league games would be a good time to get hungry! Maybe with Lukaku coming to town Kane will step up a little bit with a point to prove.

the summer hurt a lot of us, but he's still a top quality striker and goalscorer and will prove it.

Because part of his job is to balance out all factors. Things like would Kane give 100%, would he try and protect himself against injury for a season and be less effective etc.

The job of the chairman isn't about keeping your best player, it's about doing what's best for the team and the supporters and sometimes you do that by selling your best player and rebuilding.

You just need the balls to do it.

Lol.... Are we taking about the same Levy that still gets torn to pieces some 10-15 years later over the reluctant sale of any decent player that ever left????

Haha Kane is not our best player. Zero chance he is. Get that through your head. He might be our best goal scorer when he's in the box and gets balls delivered to his feet but that's all.

Without Son, we lose to Dinamo 3-0 and get dominated by CP

Without Kane, we convincingly beat City and then beat Wolves this season despite all the drama surrounding Kane's diva antics. Oh, and we also make the Champions League final.

This is no knock on Kane. I still think he's a great striker, just not for our squad.
Convincingly beat city? Oof. Only a penalty vs Wolves and their poor finishing saved us vs wolves. You must be a big nuno fan.

Just where did we price him out of the move? We never quoted a price.

I'm not even sure a concrete offer was made for Kane. Lots of speculation about what they were "prepared" to pay, but no counter from Spurs.
And this was substantiated by Pep who said that Tottenham didn’t want to talk

So we have speculation about Shitty making an offer of £75 million plus add ons and even more speculation about Levy wanting £150million

All Levy has maintained is that Kane isn’t for sale and any ‘Gentleman’s Agreement’ isn’t worth the paper that it isn’t written on!!

I usually dismiss clickbate debates at talkSport, but Adrian Durham and Darren Gough made interesting points today on Kane after his poor performance against Palace. In sum:

- His lack of efforts clearly showed that Kane doesn’t want to be at Spurs.
- Kane will still score every now and then because Kane is Kane but it won’t change the fact that he doesn’t want to play for Spurs.
- Spurs can perform well without Kane because Son is “ridiculously important” for Spurs since he can play center, run behind defenders, has pace for counters and is clinical.
- But Spurs can’t perform well without Son because as good as Kane is, he has no pace like Son, Vardy or Ronaldo to run through defenders or is not suited for counters in the Mourinho/Nuno style of football.
- Kane and Son are deadly duos and have been brilliant together, but without Son, Kane will need better midfielders to create. He probably doesn’t enjoy playing with Spurs’ players without Son.
- Darren Gough said he golfs with some of the spurs players and they all expected Kane to leave this summer and the proceed was going to be reinvested in buying new players to rebuild because in order for the team to evolve, the team has to stop relying on Harry Kane.

Edit: regarding Darren Gough’s statement, it wasn’t clear if the last part (about stop relying on Kane and all) was his opinion or some of the players’ he golfs with.
Yes I was listening to that and some valid points were made

So because some fans don't like the fact you sold a player 10-15 years ago, you don't ever let it happen again. So thank you for agreeing that we have a eunuch chairman

What opportunity?

Levy doesn’t want to sell him and why should he as he is under contract

For Kane to be at his best he needs to get the ball in and around the oppositions box and we need to create the half yard he needs to slot home by having players in support dragging defenders away.

When did we get the ball into him anywhere near the Palace goal at the weekend?

When we dominate crap sides like Pacos and play the game in the opposition half he gets the ball and scores goals, when we play City in the league cup final and the entire game is played in our half surprise surprise Kane goes "missing"

It's not rocket science, its fucking obvious.

He's been feeding on scraps for well over a season now with the bullshit counter attack style employed by Maureen, and now it seems Nuno wants to play in a similar style.

Yet he still netted 23 PL goals and 33 in all comps last season despite being in a system that doesn't suit his attributes at all, and despite some of you claiming his head not being here.

There is no striker in the world that would want to come to Spurs that would get even close to replacing those goals.

We needed to replace Eriksen in this window but once again the board shit the bed in the transfer window. It's been what 3 years since he left and we still don't have a creative player fit to lace his boots.

I can't be dealing with any more clueless opinions on Kane in here, you haven't got a fucking scooby what you are talking about.

What if Kane becomes ineffective, moody, a waste of a shirt?

Do we hold onto him just to prove we don't have to sell our best players? Do we cut our noses off to spite our faces.

The problem is that we all know Kane wants to leave, so things will never be the same as before.

The main reason we didn't sell Kane is nothing to do with City not meeting an imaginary valuation, it's all to do with the fact there is no confidence that we could improve the team with the money we'd have got for him.

And yet again we didn't buy a striker "to partner" Kane because when the chips were down, we didn't have the balls to go big money for someone. Hence proving why Kane wants to leave and why we are absolutely gutless going forward.

And Nuno used to play for Jose so it should come as no surprise that he plays a similar system

You’re bringing up different points to my main one

If Kane wants to sulk for the next three years and ruin his career then that’s on him
No one else

If he wants to knuckle down and play for us then again that’s on him

I agree that the last transfer window was awful

We’re still carrying deadwood
Winks and Doherty

We haven’t bought a creative midfielder or a DM
Or a striker

It's nothing about having balls to do it, a player cannot be sold unless there is a buyer making an acceptable offer. We had one bid come in which was insulting (£75m + £25m add-ons) so in that situation Levy was right to say no.
If we'd had acceptable bids which Levy turned down it would be a different situation, but as it was this particular summer Levy was not the one in the wrong.

That's far from being a forgone conclusion.

No. He was not for sale, so all the chat about ego and posturing is bollocks.

The problem is that we all know Kane wants to leave, so things will never be the same as before.

Modrich was superb after he didn't get his move to Chelsea.....

You can only be alluding to the "one of our own" schtick.... And that's just sentiment for the best part.

Something you're otherwise preaching shouldn't cloud our decision making.... You can't have it both ways.

To say that has nothing to do with any prospective price-tag is ludicrous.

And yet again we didn't buy a striker "to partner" Kane because when the chips were down, we didn't have the balls to go big money for someone.

You don't pay with your balls..... You pay with your wallet.

Hence proving why Kane wants to leave and why we are absolutely gutless going forward.

He wanted to leave as he's getting older and is now itchy for a trophy or two.... It doesn't take an entire round of golf with Gary Neville to comprehend this.

And the fact remains that he is under contract with us for over two more years so if we don’t want to sell him whatever the offer may be then he stays

No one forced him to sign a lucrative 6 year deal without a release clause

No, just pointing out the hypocrisy at play when peeps change their tact according to their agenda.

Reasoning aside; your whole position here is that of "we should have sold Kane", YET the club didn't want to... I'm pointing out that when forced to sell players against our will in the past fans didn't like it.

There are numerous people in this thread that would have cunted Levy off either way.... They're all too transparent.

Personally, I warmed to the idea of a sale and a rebuild if the price was right, but the fact that we still have a boss CF to call upon is sufficient compensation for me to move on and look forward towards the season at hand.

This is the part that baffles me.... Between Kane & Son we have a potent pair of attackers that a system can be shaped around, yet there's a mass of people that seem oblivious to the fact that it's the one unit of our team that worked last year.... Kane dropping in deeper and feeding Sonny was massively productive. If we can mix it up and also service them a bit further up too then all's the better.

- Get the right blend of Lucas/Gil/Berg/Ndombele/Gio/Dele/PEH/Skipp in place behind them (Not perfect, but far from shite.... Enter Nuno!)
- Shore the back-line up (moves were made in the summer window to do so - Le's see how Romero & Emerson pan out).

.....And lets fucking get on with it.
