A position he's never played in in his life.

What exactly have you seen in him that would suggest he could handle the defensive side of things, which wing backs (unlike wingers) have to do?

Jose had him playing pretty much like an auxiliary-WB in the big games last season..... Some of his best performances since coming here IMO.

Not saying it's a sure thing, but as a prospect it's intrigued me even since.

I gotta say, I watched the Milan derby last night and didn’t at all see the hype with Kessie..

He was poor.

The LCB at inter Bastoni was very good

That was an absolute mess of a game, and one where he was virtually alone against a kind of 3/4 man Inter midfield. He did get caught on the ball for the first pen, but I actually think he was fouled and that was a poor decision.

I don't think Kessie is a "hype" type player, he doesn't do anything fancy or spunktastic, he's just got a very good skill set for a 6, a decent match up of physical qualities, tenacity and technical. And he'd be robust enough for the PL. He can play in a CM2 or CM3.

He'd be a quantum upgrade on Hojbjerg as a 6.

Is there anything stopping us from moving for Saúl from Chelsea? He was a very fine central midfielder for Atleti, regular international, but has played a grand total of 39 minutes out of a possible 450+ for the <removed>s.

Marca reckon today that Tuchel wants rid in January...

Forgot all about him...... What's the story there any ideas?

His signing got pretty a big fanfare.

I appreciate that, but our own fans are hyping the hell out of him. Struggling to see how he'd solve our lack of creativity.

My hope would be, bringing someone like him in would allow us to play a couple of 8's either side (Lo Celso and Ndombele for now eg) which would improve massively how we move the ball through/from midfield.

And as a virtual free (?) aged 24, (I don't think his wages are horrendous either are they?) shouldn't be a major disaster if it din't work out.

I really like Kessie but I don’t think he’s a proper 6.

Less important if we’re in a back 3, but just an observation.

Anyway, the absolute worst criticism you could possibly level at Kessie is that he’s a carbon copy of PEH (I think he’s both a better athlete and has more quality on the ball than that, plus I like PEH) and we could get him on a free. Great deal if we pull it off.

No idea, nor did the Marca hack. I was sort of gutted when he went there in the summer, I'm no Atleti fan but I've always liked him - a real hard-working midfielder, never goes missing type. Pretty skilful too.

Here's the piece, it's well written but not available on the English version of the site yet. Google Translate will give you an OK idea.

"Chelsea want to send Saúl back in January"

"Only the third keeper Bettinelli has played less than he has"

We bash the midfielders we have for passing sideways and back. That's what I am seeing with this guy, too.

I think Kessie is a lot less "hot potato" with the ball than Hojbjerg, a lot more comfortable/composed under pressure generally, technically a bit better, and is also a a more fluent mover round the pitch, as well as being pretty good defensively. I think he's being asked to do a fuck of a lot in that Milan team, Ibra floats around doing fuck all and that pulls everyone else around, for a team that is pretty proactive it's a stretch.

As I said, I think we potentially have two 8's that could "play the footbal"l in Ndombele/Lo Celso, we could just ask Kessie to be the glue, which I personally think he's very capable of, especially in a well coached, well structured team - which you'd hope we might get under Conte?

If not Kessie, who do fancy for the 6 6/hybrid?

I don’t think you could ever play all of PEH, Skipp and Kessie together at the same time. That’s the nagging part of it.

What we need above all else is for 2014 Christian Eriksen to magically reappear.

He’d cost eleventy trillion pounds today, how on earth did we get that deal out of Ajax who know young talent when they see it.

I'd start with a number 8 who wants to, and is productive, to play for 90 minutes - atm we have zero no 8's who seem to answer that description.

Unfortunately finding them for cheap is going to be a lot harder than picking up a upgrade (on what we have) 6 like Kessie who's got a few months left on his deal.

Then we can think about how we move on 90m worth of 8's we've already got here, one of which is on 200k pw and who and how much it will cost to replace them. Failing that, we need to try and get the best out of them, at least until that happens - and a decent 6 upgrade on Pierre the tank engine would be a good start.

I don't give a fuck if we only get 60-70minutes out of Ndombele every game, if what he does in that 60-70 minutes helps us win games.

I don't know why people are so keen to sell Rodon, young and has hardly put a foot wrong in the limited time he's been given on the pitch.

I am not saying I want to move him but I think his ability is very overrated. For Wales he has been mediocre at best, He had a lot of issues and some positives at the Euros's.

I think he is looking at an upside of mediocre PL CB. There is nothing about his game or that he has shown that would make you think he is close to a top 4 CB now or in the future.

With us going to a back 3 and him likely best suited to the middle of the back 3 where Romero will be he can be useful as back-up but that is about it.

Ndombele / Skipp / Kessie

....Too defensive for your liking?

I think Ndombele & Gio are too 'luxury' to play both.

I don't think Lo Celso and Ndombele are likely to change and all of a sudden become good enough for what we need, but as a temporary solution to the summer they certainly are better options than guys like PEH and Moura.

My concern with getting Kessie is that instead of being the PEH upgrade that he is we would end up playing him with PEH. I don't think Conte is that dumb and my concern is lessened with him here but we still are Spurs with morons like Levy and Paratici at the top so anything is possible.

Sadly the highlighted bit ' Ndombele every game, if what he does in that 60-70 minutes helps us win games ' is also inconsistent.

Reality is I suspect we will move on one of them - probably Lo Celso - and see if Ndombele pulls up his socks to compete with whoever we can bring in as a no 8.

Too risky to move on both in one window (incoming players may take time to settle) and we are unlikely to get in 2 good number 8's in one window especially in January

I am not sure you can even play two of them together outside of a game against City, Chelsea, Liverpool but my hope is we are looking to start playing them with Conte as manager not just hold on and fluke out a result.

Already have Sarr waiting in the wings too....

As young and pliable as he is; the prospect of Conte getting his hands on him is exciting!

I'm not sure you'd want to anyway.....

We also have Sarr coming in + either a revitalised Ndombele & Gio or whoever they would otherwise be replaced with.

14m wasn't chicken feed at the time.... I think we got a free run at him because some of the bigger clubs doubted his temperament/mentality; thinking him a little too timid.
