Not if Parawanky is still believing he can get De Ligt.surely Conte & co have already spoken to the players they want in ?
and must know what is doable in this window
Agreed
Leicester's revenue is reduced due to Covid but those ratios of wages/revenue should be a bit of an eye opener for some. Obviously unsustainable (more than 100% of revenues paid out as wages) - I think they bet the farm on getting successive CL campaigns in taking on new players on high wages.
We signed Lamela on the back of a phenomenal season where he ripped up numbers. That's why I'm always wary of strikers that only seemed to excel in Italy.I am actually very worried regarding Vlahovic tearing it apart in Serie A.
The pace of the game in the league generally (apart from Juve-Inter-Napoli games) is shockingly slow. He literally would have 1/3 of the time on the ball and to make a decision in EPL. I cannot get it out of my head that total lump of wood like Immobile has been top scorer there. FOR 3 TIMES! In Dortmund he scored 3 goals from 24 games and he was written off before first season was done!
Vlahovic has scored 37 league goals from start of last season, true. But I honestly fear that if we'd buy him, he would maybe be able to score 10 in EPL if he starts all games. What would benefit him is that we play a lot of crosses into the box under Conte. So Lukaku type of player could do well in his system + I could see him being played together with Kane. But it all depends on the terms. I would be bit scared if we'd ship out like 80 mil for him. Ofc if Conte strongly believes he could cut it in EPL then I am all for it.
But mentioned Jonathan David makes me less scared somehow. Would love to make double-deal with Lille, to get David+Botman for the same amount of money we'd pay for Vlahovic.
Those graphs are embarrassing - what we’ve been suspecting for years now - expecting world class players on ChampionshipVery interesting - wages to turnover ratio is always a strong measure of an organisation’s approach to risk imo. As you say, they had a punt on paying more to get CL revenue and it looks like it hasn’t worked out for them. To be fair, if they had any sense they would have realised their title win was a flash in the pan and that ‘normal service’ would resume pdq.
The graphic also shows that we ‘win’ the wages to turnover trophy … but I’m not sure that doesn’t say more about our attitude to risk. To Dare Is To Do?…. ahem….
In Jan?I'm expecting one or two signings in the 20-25m range. If that.
Eggsacly!
Because we are run sensibly?Very interesting graph.
The way the club is run is an absolute disgrace- non footballing assets prioritised.
That needs to change in the Jan window.
Indeed. Man City and Chelsea are sustainable businesses though. Leicester's owners service their debts but they are light years away from being a real business like the other two. In my opinion it will collapse at some point.Their wages to turnover is huge too. They are bankrolled like moan city and Chelsea by their owners but it gets no press. They have to sell a big player every season to cover it basically.
Leeds went down the pan because a) it was a different era and b) they trusted David O'Dreary. It's as simple as that. They thought they were a shoe in for the CL and he failed to get them there. They signed lots of players on the basis the CL money would keep coming.Because we are run sensibly?
Look at what happened to Leeds went they went beyond their means.
I hate the fact that when we've been so close we fell short because of penny pinching, but I wouldn't want the clubs future to be risked because we wank too much of our revenue on wages. It's an unsustainable model.
City aren't a real business. They buy companies to sponsor themselves to make it look like they make money to beat FFP.Indeed. Man City and Chelsea are sustainable businesses though. No, but not being in the CL has impacted our revenue. That 50% wages to turnover would be far worse if we banked on being in the CL every year which isn't a guarantee.Leeds went down the pan because a) it was a different era and b) they trusted David O'Dreary. In the current decade, the PL and TV money is huge, we have a huge, money generating stadium, a massive deal with Nike and AIA and at some point, a naming deal.
We will never do a Leeds, even if we significantly changed our spending culture.
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHALook at what happened to Leeds went they went beyond their means.
Don't underestimate that "youth" set up either. For every Mount or Hudson-Odoi there's an Atsu and a Loftus Cheek, and they sell those that don't make it for decent sums which offsets their current spend.City aren't a real business. They buy companies to sponsor themselves to make it look like they make money to beat FFP.
Chelsea spunked a fortune 20 years ago, before FFP, and now have a significantly higher fan base than they ever did before and now are a big, money making club.
You know how there's loads of a Man United fans down south? Where are the City fans?
It's gonna take another 10 years before we see them, and probably 20 years before they're adults.

I agree. If Watford go down we should be all over him. He’s the kind of player Liverpool would sign and turn him into a star.
What poor financial management?I understand that "doing a Leeds" is seen as a bit of a cliche, but the perils of poor financial management didn't magically dissapear when the EPL came to fruition.
