Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

I don’t think Conte adapts for anybody based on his career. I don’t know if Conte wants Traore, the links still are pretty thin. But if it does happen, it will be because Conte wants him.

People make Levy seem 12 feet tall, in reality Conte will have no fear of a football minnow who has never won anything like Levy. He’ll get what he wants or he’ll leave, within reason. Obviously he’ll know we are currently a level below where Juve and Chelsea were when he was there.

All transfers and moves going forward will be approved by Conte and if they aren’t he will tell you in the press. His history is very clear on this. He lost his shit very publicly at Chelsea when he wasn’t getting what he wanted. Also with the Inter board this past year. Conte will put Levy in his place if he needs to, there’s zero doubt.

I agree with what you are saying which is why I doubt Traore comes.

I just think that if we get him with our previous links to him pre-Conte, with him being rumoured to be cheap and with him being the opposite of what Conte likes in a WB that it is more likely Conte changed his approach in how to deal with transfers since coming to Spurs rather than he changed his whole approach to WB’s.

Why is he the opposite of what Conte likes in a WB? I don’t know if he’s an ideal fit, but Conte has consistently turned wingers like Moses, Young, and Perisic who can dribble and beat a man into wing backs.

Other of his wingbacks like Hakimi, Lichsteiner, Asamoah, Alonso, were all far more attacking than Emerson and couldn’t hack it in a four man backline as Traore wouldn’t.

Once again, not sure if Traore is the guy, but I can see why Conte would be theoretically intrigued with a player with his speed and dribbling skill set at WB.

I think Hugo can play for at least another two seasons, if he stays fit. Is a weird situation with Kane now though and the club captaincy- before the summer drama it seemed like a sure succession. Feels like we will have to wait until the end of the season to see how much Kane wants to stay for anything to really be decided on Hugo staying.

Value £25m and contract expires 2023.

Some quick thoughts:

- Not a snowball's chance in hell that Winks is going anywhere in January given Conté has explicitly praised him in last week's press conference (and it saves us a slight headache regarding HG numbers).
-Gollini isn't even bought yet, so again is going nowhere.
-Clarke and Rodon out on loan for sure. Doherty as well unless someone actually wants to buy him.
-Bergwijn sold to Ajax would be my guess but you never know if Conté fancies keeping him around in case we don't buy a striker (he keeps subbing him on for Kane).

-Please god tell me that Griezmann and Henderson were trolling to determine if someone actually read the whole post.
Henderson the keeper - Golini is a fraud

Griezman is miles better than Moura at 10

What does Conte like in a WB?

Based on 3 players that we know he chose to play WB for me versus having on the team before he got there in Young, Moses and Hakimi it appears he likes fast, athletic wings that can cross the ball into the box and contribute with goals as well.

I don't see much indication from his past to indicate he was a bull that runs with his head down trying to beat the whole team on his own with zero crossing ability and no goal threat.

Seems Conte has a fair idea who he has no interest in keeping;

Doherty
Rodon
Dele
Gollini (terminate loan)
Bergwijn
Clarke
Ndombele

Maybe also
Lo Celso
Tanganga

The club would need to give him something like an £80m transfer budget + money generated from player sales in a January window.. plus find willing buyers for our rejects and players prepared to come to us mid season..

I fear a lot of Spurs fans and maybe Conte himself will be disappointed with our business and squad once this January window closes. It's pretty unrealistic to expect the kind of player movement we need until the summer so I'm not going to get overly carried away with transfer window ideas and optimistic lists of top European players names. It's not possible and we can't blame Conte, Paratici, Levy, Hitchen or anyone when a miracle doesn't happen.

For me, if we can shift a few of the above players, bring in replacements for positions of the outgoing players, plus 2-3 extras (RWB, CM, FW) that ideally are starters rather than future potential players - we give ourselves a good crack at getting top 4.. and with that comes the lure & finances of Champions League football where the pool of players available to us dramatically increases in quality.

We aren't a million miles away form having a squad worthy of securing top 4, but what I'm reading from Spurs fans' hopes and expectations from a January window is ridiculous, playstation Fifa stuff.

I understand your point, but if we did go for Traore I think it would be because Conte saw something in him that he thought would suit him with a bit of coaching up.

He’s unexpectedly made wingbacks out of players with a lot less talent than Traore. So I’d be willing to give Conte the benefit of the doubt on Traore, much more so than with Nuno in the summer for example.

I get this and find this the only justified caveat. On the flip......Anything but Conte's pick doesn't interest me.

I don't tend to dig my heels in so strongly about oppo players cos I'm aware that others watch a lot more of other leagues than I; but I've seen enough of Traore to strongly think he'll be a a bust and remain thoroughly unconvinced of the opposing arguments in favour of him.

The guys you mention all can cross the ball into the box and contribute with goals. Two things Traore doesn't do. None of those guys mentioned are head down, dribble through the whole team themselves guys like Traore.

I think he wants a more attacking option than Royal and definitely think we could (and should) be looking for a RWB I just don't see Traore fitting with what Conte has used in the past. There are so many other options out there that fit the WB's that he has used more than Traore.

When you add in the previous links we have had with him and the fact that he is now reportedly available on the cheap the links seem to be much more Levy related than Conte related.
