Ex-Spurs Player Harry Kane

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Honest question - when's the last time a PL title winner had a striker and/or primary attacking target as slow and immobile as Kane?

Only player I can think of that was just as slow or even slower is Berbatov when he won a title w/ Man U

Yeah my thoughts exactly.

He looks sharp, the last few big chances (including that very unfortunate ‘offside’ goal vs Southampton) he’s put away ruthlessly. His first touch and finishing has been back on form, and he’s also looking more mobile. Numerous moments where he’s powered past defenders.

But we can’t be giving our main striker this kind of service. The quality of crosses in to the box needs to radically improve, and let’s not get started on the lack of incisive passing from midfield.

This to me is the issue. For all the complaints of "Harry Kane ball" it seems that the midfield is where we are lacking most. If we cannot feed our forwards quality service then it doesn't matter how great they are.

Anyone still feeling like a shout for Dybala?

We're #5 in big shots created and #6 in xG with 2-3 less games played than the teams in front of us.

We're -5.2 goals under our xG as a team which is 18th in the League.

Our front 3 (primarily Kane) has been a big problem as far as being clinical and our lack of goals are concerned.

So we are the 6th best creators but 10th best in scoring goals. Finishing is the bigger problem than 'lack of service'

Yeah but Kane was on poor form for months... I genuinely think he's turned a corner now.
Sure, maybe he has turned the corner. Looks sharper than before.

But still need to call out those that try to point the blame on our service or other factors when it clearly hasn't been the main issue for Spurs/Kane's lack of goals - it has indisputably been more about Kane's form this year than anything else.

Not really. It just means that service hasn't created enough good chances.

See, he can play with cherry-picked stats as much as he wants, but it doesn't change the situation that is obvious to everyone who doesn't hate Harry Kane. Notice how the complaint about Kane changes from week to week? One week it's about how he doesn't score against good teams. Then when that gets shot down it's about how his shot conversion is terrible. Then when that gets disproved it becomes about how we play better without Kane. Then it's something else, because he simply can't admit that his narrative has been ignorant garbage for months. Today it's about xG.

Whining about xG means nothing, ultimately, because no two sources can agree on how it should correctly be calculated. The simple truth is that while we are creating a bunch of 'chances', few of them have been very decent. The service to the front line has been terrible, which is why our number of shots total is way down from when we had a dynamic midfield firing on all cylinders.

He's missed plenty of sitters this season.

One, via Igula Igula 's favorite player, who put it on a sliver platter for Kane a week or so ago.

Then against Brentford from an exquisite pass from Skipp

Then via a perfect pass from Dier against Woolwich

Need more Igula Igula ?

Its not just that we are scoring below our xG, even by this 'big chances created' metric, we are creating enough 'big chances' to score the 6th most number of goals but have scored fewer than others who have created fewer 'big chances'.

If multiple metrics from different sources are showing that our attackers are not finishing at the level that the service is being given to them, then it would be silly to not recognize that our finishing is a big problem.

A pre assist is by definition a big chance created.
Mate, a "Big Chance Created" is literally it's own stat. It's the final pass that results in a high probability shot (e.g. 1v1 situation w/ goalie, shot in the 6 box etc).

A pre assist is a pass before the final pass that ultimately leads to a goal.

So they are completely different things.

It's fine that you didn't know but really no need with the personal attacks.

Can you give a reference for the exact calculation method of 'big chance', because just like xG it appears to be entirely arbitrary.

If none of these metrics can even agree on how they should be measured, then it's pretty stupid to base an entire critique of a player upon it.

I repeat: we may have created a bunch of chances, but if few of them are actually very good then it matters little. The service from the midfield has been more woeful than the finishing.

No that's a Key Pass.

A pre assist is a pass before the final pass.

Yes, which means it creates a big chance.

No. :contelol:

Just admit you were wrong..

I dont have the willingness to search the exact calcution. You could check out premierleague.com if you want.

But as a logical person I would assume that this metric just picks out chances that has a higher than 0.5 xG attached to it( better chance of scoring than not scoring, like pens, or shots from close range etc that usually get scored by most premier league players more often than not)
