Presumably, the Chavs can buy him back at 40m at any time he is under his current contract with S'oton (I'm guessing the clause dies when the current deal expires, but there may be further devil in the contractual detail of the agreement).

e.g. Lets say we came in and offered 30(*) for him...... The Chavs could trigger that 40m clause (and Sain't would be obliged to accept), but if the Chavs chose not to then S'ton could push on and accept our offer and the clause would exist no more as it was a contract between the two clubs; not a stake in the player himself.

(*Just a working number; it wouldn't matter if we offered 50m.... The Chavs right remains the same.)
You're forgetting that the player has some individual agency here. Clauses don't override a player's choice.

1. It's fair to assume he had to agree to the clause being inserted to begin with. For him to be able to just say "no, I want Spurs" would make for a thoroughly shallow agreement.

2. Sure he'd lap up the chance to return to his boyhood club.

Awww.... Come on Iggy-babes...... Open up to us....

Why is that?

Fabregas is a known prick and bullshitter looking for a whinge because a manager didnt think he was gods gift.
Likewise dont worry about me. Ill talk to my family here while you live your sad little troll life in a basement living your life through this trying to convince spurs fans Kane is the worst thing since the plague.
I Never put anyone on ignore but sick of your trolling as many here are. Bye bye bellend. Dont let the damp get into your chest now in the basement
I’m putting you on ignore because I think I know more than Fabregas does about himself

But no one does this; he's always double marked and fouled constantly.
This is what I wonder about Traore coming here. No one would be able to double mark him with Son and Kane up front (and Moura). He would generally see less defensive attention and his ability to draw the defense out of shape would mean more room for Kane and Son. Obviously the end product is a problem, but you almost wonder if his presence on the pitch by itself helps make Son, Kane, and Moura more productive. (because even with a shit end product, the defense can’t ignore someone who plays like him).

I could see it really being great for Moura. Right now when Moura cuts inside, defenders go with him, but with someone like Traore streaking inside, or with Traore flying down the flank forcing defenders to leave Moura, it might really open up things for him to create goals and chances much more easily than he can with Royal on the right.

We got flat-out turned down by Kounde in the summer because we lacked CL.

P.Torres turned us down despite the offer of a fat pay-rise too.

Man U had global recognition for foreign players to lean on (but still have to overpay in terms of fee and wages to get deals over the line). However, Arse, Spam & Leicester still can't shop on the elite shelf.... And realistically not the shelf below that either. Like them, we essentially we can shop on the 3rd shelf atm.... CL likely opens us back up to the 2nd shelf.

Yeayea, that is the reason why we did not get Kounde. Not that Chelsea being in the CL also failed in his pursuit as well.

Over past few years Woolwich has signed Aubameyang, Partey, Pepe, Lacazette who all held international reckonition... 3rd shelf my arse...

Okay, Leicester and West Ham are not the best examples of buying big names. But first is good example of how to generally buy players. I mean not to buy big names but to make big names out of almost-no-name players. That is also where our best deals have come from.

All our biggest singings in terms of fee have been total failures. Literally in terms of fees paid, first 6 are been either massive flops or just flops.

So not having CL is very convinient excuse, but given our background and history, I doubt it makes much difference. Improving our scouting ability is 10x bigger issue.

I hope we do sign a right-wing back. I'm not saying we shoudl get Traore, but if it was for a cut price (and £20m-£25m is not big money in top level football anymore) then I'd assume Conte would see in him what he saw in Moses at Chelsea, only Traore has even better raw material to work with.

But it could all be bollocks, just warmed up stories from when we were linked with him because Nuno was manager.

An attacking right-wing back is a must though. Bin Doherty, keep Emerson for the squad.

What does that mean?

Traore has more muscle mass and more pace.
So it means he has better raw material for track and field superstar.

But in football ball control, pass and crossing accuracy and ability to shoot are also very crutial.
I very much doubt that pre-Conte Moses had those skills worse than Traore of now.

When Chelsea initially brought Moses, it came on back of a season where he scored 6 goals and gave 6 assists for Wigan. While being 21. Traore has had 1 season where he matched such contribution and he is 26 later this month. And this season he is on 0 goals + 0 assists once more...

Should we not be looking past the assist column for Traore?
Unfortunately the stats are often a bit grey. This season he's played 17 games (but not sure how much of each of those games)
He's had 30 odd crosses but no assists. Is if his fault he has no assists? Would a better front 3 make more of them? Apparently he's only made 3 "big chances" but what is a big chance?

If there is one negative I think most people are overlooking, way more concerning than any of those stats, is his ability to work the whole length of the pitch for 90 minutes. Muscles burn more calories, so he's probably only ever going to last 45-60 mins.

But this relies on Adama doing all his work off the ball as the oaf booms it into row z when he has it

Agree with the point on assists but he doesn’t pass the eye test….. he’s not beating a man and moving the ball, it’s just nonsense play with no end product be it simple passes, assists or big chances. He loses the ball

I see more potential in Bergwin at RWB than Traore (injuries aside)

But all of your theory is based upon him scaring defences shitless just by crossing the white line.

He doesn’t.
