We dont have many good CBs . So this insistence on 3 CBs no matter what the situation, is extremely wierd.

It's served us well since Conte arrived and gives us the flexibility to commit players forward when we have the ball.
It didn't work last night because:

A) Tanganga looked a fucking mess.
B) Sanchez needs to be bossed about by a team mate to look even half effective
C) Doherty has no left foot and shouldn't be playing at all, let alone out of position
D) Chelsea were simply more up for it than we were all over the pitch.

:contefacepalm:So we can’t call them <removed>s apparently, it’s homophobic. Pretty sure they weren’t as offended when they made those gas hissing sounds.

Playing two DMs is a self inflicted choice that our manager has played since he joined even with 3 CBs.
well yes, obviously the manager chooses the team. in Conte I trust, he hasn't lost a league game but the best game I've seen us play this season was against Liverpool when we didn't play any DMs and we went toe to toe with them and were disappointed not to win.

As bad as we played yesterday and as dominant as Chelsea were, it was two gifts we gave them, but we should have taken the game to them with a winks, ndombele midfield or skipp + winks or ndombele, whatever we think of either of them, we don't have better right now that gives us that balance and creativity

Chelsea looked so far ahead of us now, us winning our games in hand to be a point behind is more an indication that other teams have done better against them than what we'll ever do...

Football doesn't work like that mate..... Teams all have good and bad days and 99% of the time there's some form of extenuating circumstance underpinning any result.

We may play 2 DM, but at times during the match, 2 FB's are in the opposition half. 1 of the CD's is tasked with joining attacks, and we play with 3 forwards.
This is not the days of AVB, who set up with a 4231 and made everyone stay in their position.

Went to a couple of Chelsea away games when I lived nearby.

I heard threats of violence, homophobic chants, racists chants and coin throwing all from a small group of the Spurs fans. Called them out on it and got threatened myself.

Unfortunately this vocal minority spoil it for everyone else.

That seems to be the crux of our issue. We don't have backup strikers.

Do Kane/Son influence us not to sign decent backups? E. G. Sign somebody else and I'll leave.
The issue is Levy/ENIC not investing in the squad and coaches who couldn't understand the value of options outside of the first 11.

To paraphrase Paul merson when he was aghast at Harry Maguire’s price tag , 3 at the back protects weaker defenders, because their job instantly becomes specialised. It’s done wonders for all of them.
Okay great. But then we are left with 2 CMs against a team like chelsea who will take the ball of them easily and go past them. Our 3 superspecialised CBs then get bombarded 10 times harder because we never have the ball. Of course they will make mistakes at some point and get destroyed.

Im not saying, never play a back 3. But we became twice the team after we switched to a back 4 and had and extra midfielder on.

No shame at all in losing to Chelsea last night. I think it's simply the manner and nature if it

If Conte were with us for 2 years and the same thing occurred then it would be more emblematic of him and the squad that he had built.

For now it was an expected result and I guess the disappointment was the lack or sign that the result was in doubt.

It really wasn't in my opinion.
