Errrrrr.... They above was all signed before that CL win.
Right, that’s exactly what I’m saying.

When Salah exploded they saw they were on the precipice of club-changing success of the kind they’d previously achieved with the Red Sox. And so they made moves they wouldn’t have made before and might not make now because the iron was hot and that changed the calculation.

(Now, you may fairly observe that our iron is currently in a vat of liquid fucking nitrogen and that’s true. We’re looking over a different sort of BUSINESS, FINANCIAL precipice though.)

Roughly the same as Matt1882 Matt1882 and FightingIllini FightingIllini are getting paid by Fenway......

:mourthumb:
Fuck that shit Go Cubs

(Fenway Park itself is an amazingly cool place though if any of you find yourself in Boston during the season)

Greed.
unrealistic demands. It was the most talked about stadium in the world for a while. People would have been itching to be connected with it. its gets less attractive as time goes on because the name TH stadium becomes more established.
As well as the team getting more shit. I'm sure the idea was to flog the naming rights when the team was in a position of strength. But they've fucked the recruitment up so badly it might never be corrected and now Levy won't accept any lesser offers. So we're like an expensive car nobody wants to buy.

If we had won the Champs league the other year,he probably would have got what he wanted. But he is forever chasing that now.

I wonder why we lost so many top footballing guys to Liverpool just before they started to do really well in Michael Edwards (who was their Sporting Director after 5 years or so and is stepping down soon) and Alex Inglethorpe who I have only ever heard tremendous things about.

If you sum up 21 years of words and actions, that is the literal strategy of this investment company.

100% true. The objective has always seemed to be to finish in the top 4 and therefore get into the CL.

I would bet they have concluded the following:

Profits generated by having a net spend just enough to get into the CL

>

Profits generated by having enough net spend to really compete for titles and the top trophies (read: CL)

The problem with that strategy is that aiming for 4th place (who the fuck with any pride does that) gives you very very little margin for error. We have seen that play out before our eyes.

No idea about the Red Sox (baseball?); but we're largely back to talking about what they did with the Coutinho money. There's been no massive cash injection.

I mean this with no ill, but dial down the fluffyness a little mate... You're losing me at points.

They bought extraordinarily well to get Mane, Salah and Van Dijk.

Summer 2018 they bought decent enough, but they timed that injection of help extremely well.

Naby Keita’s been a bit of a bust. Not Ndombele bad but not a difference maker. Shaqiri was a squad player. Alisson is overrated and wouldn’t recoup his fee if they tried to sell him. Fabinho is brilliant and underrated.

But it filled the right holes at the right time.

Their actions were responsive to the FINANCIAL opportunity offered by winning major honors. Think what Liverpool’s revenue outlook and club value looks like today versus what it would be if they’d finished fourth in 2019 and 2020.

ENIC acts as if they can be 5th fighting for 4th forever and draw 62k at eye watering prices forever at profit-ensuring spending levels forever.

Forget the anti-sporting cynicism of it, they’re just incorrect.

The difference between the ENIC and FSG projects is that FSG understands and executes the business of running a football club better.
They're not wrong about being able to draw the crowd though. Football supporters, sports fans in general, are prisoners of their own making. We're the only people actually loyal to the club.

We'll moan, we'll make banners, tens of people will protest outside the stadium, we'll rant on internet forums and Twitter.

Then they'll roll a ball out on the pitch and we'll get stuck in again. And when we die, someone else will be stuck in our place.

Lambs to the slaughter.
