Transfers January 2022 - Transfer Window

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Anyone who thinks that trying to haggle 5 million off every deal has nothing to do with is loosing players we are chasing, needs their head read. The Traore saga has been coming on from day one of this window. If you go to a club and ask, "How much for Traore/Diaz" and they say 10 million plus 5 million.... Then you go to the agent and ask, "How much does Traore/Diaz want to come to Spurs?" The agent says ..... Then you go ok or sod off. We spent more than 3 weeks trying for Traore and a Week on Diaz. We low balled both. Barca came and offered more. Liverpool came and offered more. Still people think the haggling had nothing to do with us loosing out. Clubs sell to the highest price. Players generally go where conditions are best and they get payed the best. Be honest if You were a club selling a player, would you sell to Levy? If you a player who gets offered more by another club, would you go to Spurs?.

Give it a rest.

Diaz chose Liverpool to go to, not because of money, it was his choice. Traore has been pleading with Barcelona to go back there for a year. Nothing to do with Spurs bid

Possibly, but I can't help but feel that the club was never fully sold on Traore.
I get that sense as well, which makes it pretty absurd to be still fucking about with the move on January 25th or whatever it was.

The agreed upon targets when Levy, Paratici, and Conte met were a RWB, a CM, and a forward of some sort.

The club failed to get that done. Conte reportedly had to deny Harvey White a loan move to be sure he had enough players, which he will not have done with a smile on his face you can be sure.

I’m glad we were able to shift deadwood Conte would clearly rather be without, and I like our two incomings, but we came up short of a successful window.

An ambivalent feeling here to this window.
Am glad to be shot of Ndombele & Lo Celso. Seems that they weren’t ever going to be our spark as things turned out & being kind, their attitudes were poor towards the club who pay their lofty wages.
Alli, I have a lot more time for. He’s lost his way with us and a fresh start may be what he needs. I wish him well.
I do wonder if we have swapped one player who has lost his way (Alli) with another (Kulu). Hopefully they can both regain their spark.
No idea what to make of Bentancur.
We haven’t really addressed our truly key areas of a proper RWB and a back up for Kane. I guess we will just have to wait and see if the signings can help us limp over the line for next years CL and then reinforce more fully in summer.
Lots of “if’s” there.

Yes, its a surprise we didn't have a back up RWB plan after Traore - either that or couldn't move Doherty on or thought that Royal would come good as RWB.

Whoever we do end up signing, I just want it to be thought through and not shite. Make sure we get someone suited to being a RWB under Conte.

Please not another Doherty or Royal.
:contepray:
Obviously you can never be 100% sure that a signing will work out. But with us, seen how many players we signed and who flopped so badly over the past 2 decades, that means there's definitely something amiss in the way we scout (then manage/develop) players.

I don't necessarily think we should sign players just because they fit our current manager's style of play. Especially as we've swapped head coach so often the past few years! Instead, get players that really fit the club's ethos to begin with. And don't just think style, think substance ie character/mentality. Also, agree on a playing style, stick to it for the long term, then pick a manager and players that fit the bill. And play the same way with U23s and younger. That's how they do it at Ajax. That's how they do it at Dortmund. That's how they do it at City and Liverpool. That's how they did it at AC Milan in the 90s. And at Barca during that glorious 10-15 year period. And look at their success.

We need to really take player recruitment seriously and strategically. It really feels as if we're acting on impulse more than anything. And that we're paying nowhere near the attention we should be to a player's values as a person. If we did, we'd never have signed N'Dombele.

It ain't all about spending big money. Do your homework like them really clever clubs like Ajax or Dortmund do it, and you'll see how it pays off.

Too many Levy sympathisers. Ask what the price is, show the money and get the signature, it doesn't take 3 weeks. If a player or club hasn't signed after you agreeing to what they want, turn and go. It means they were never interested in you.

There were a host of other players we could've tried to get instead of wasting 3/4 of a window one player.

Levy uses this tactic to make people think, "Oh he tried". Always low balling, knowing he isn't really trying to get the player.

For me this was a good window. I’m not mad on Kulusevski or Bentancur from what I’ve seen of them at Juve but they are still young and obviously Conte sees something in them. Contes bread and butter is usually these type of signings, players who are hungry with a point to prove, we need more of that.

Freeing ourselves from the shackles of hoping Dele, Ndombele and Lo Celso come good is massive.
Indeed. It's honestly refreshing to see us do it so extensively today. I don't think we've ever seen a cull quite like that at once, and is definitely something Paratici has facilitated.

Taking a look at what Kulu and Bentancur can add over the rest of the season while keeping an eye on the upcoming summer window will be good. It's possible Ndombele or Lo Celso return but to put an end to the 'maybe they'll kick on this season and fulfil their potential...' discussion every year is going to help us move forward.
