Manager Antonio Conte

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

Finally ended Kaneson - the great big bullying cyber forum waster. That'll teach him to call people 'cancers' and 'cunt's then cry when he gets it back. I'm glad to announce that I've put that little bitch back in his box.

Sorry for going off-topic gang, back to Conte stuff

:tanguythumb:
As if you'd go off topic mate.

He was lied to though. So its understandable that hes pissed.
How was he lied to ?
I presume you have links/quotes to that effect ?

There is no doubt he's pissed off
No doubt he doesn't think the players are good enough (whether to say that publicly is a good thing for team spirit is another thing)
No doubt he wants better players in the door in the summer
No doubt he's putting it up to Levy.

But he's no fool, he knows that the summer will be crucial.
He also knows he won't get every player he wants, no manager does , but he wasn't lied to.

Would never even consider it!

P.S I don't want Conte to go :(
I didn't want Conte for the reason we're seeing playing out. He's used to getting what he wants, coming to work for a louse who gives his managers the bare minimum. This was always going to be the outcome, and I'd be happier if it happened sooner rather than fake hope killing us.

Conte is a great manager, not as great as some believe, but he's definitely not the right fit for us. He's used tohaving the best and going for titles. Levy wants someone who can transform a mess of a squad into champions without spending a penny.

Me, I've kinda resigned myself to the fact that until Levy goes we'll not be challenging for anything in a hurry.

I don't want Conte to go, and I want Levy to back him.

Think I'll be left disappointed with both scenarios.

Still...world class stadium!

The Chav defeats were the beginning of the end, he looked completely embarassed by them understandibly. It's a matter of when not if he walks IMO. The next three games we've got Leeds and Boro away then Everton at home. We should win all three of them on paper but honestly it wouldn't surprise me if we lost them all.

Lose either of the next two and he'll not be around for Everton game. I would be shocked if he's manager at end of season and amazed if he is at beginning of next. Time for a long overdue change at the top, we all know it won't happen.

I suspect his expectation was to do more in January and challenge for top 4 .
The thing is, to be fair, we probably all expected to do better in our February games, and had we done so, then both he and we would be reasonably happy.

Pulling that apart a bit further:
  • Jan window was difficult and disappointing, because when it genuinely looked as though we might get Dias and would surely get Traore, both went wrong. Some might blame Levy for that, others put it more down to bad luck / unavoidable events (for example, who knew Barca, Traore's dream club, would come in for him given that they are so skint and he can't get in the Wolves team? And with Dias, what else can you do than have a bid accepted? We couldn't offer CL, not much we could do about that in Jan (though of course that in itself stems ultimately from poor player purchases in recent years)).
  • However when Feb started, most people on here (*) were reasonably confident about beating Southampton, Wolves and Leeds. Once we saw that Bentancur and Kulu actually look 1st team players, not just squad players, that presumably gave us even more confidence.
  • Of course if we had won those 3 games (even if we also got battered by Man City) then I think we, and Conte, would be pretty happy right now, fairly confident of 4th, or at least being favourite for it.
So yes both we and Conte expected at end of Jan to be in a better league position by end of Feb, and that would have made everything else - the squad for example, and the Jan window - seem better too. Of course that didn't happen, we put in poor performances and lost the games. That doesn't change the likelihood that both Conte and many on here (*) were reasonably happy / confident at end of Jan.

My point is, I know it sounds obvious, but if we'd won those Feb games then the whole package would have looked a whole lot better now to everyone, not just our league position. It really is a results business, results are so massively influential on all other feelings about everything else in the club.

(*) Obviously I exclude the extreme anti-ENIC crowd who will never be happy until ENIC goes, which of course is aboslutely their right, but not what I'm talking about here, and not what Conte is interested in or driven by - if he hated ENIC or Levy then he'd never have taken the job).

True,

The way I look at it though is that it's a lot easier being the best manager in the World when you have the best players. Conte's used to that, why he thought it would be the same here I don't know. He must have known about Levy during his time in England with the Chavs.

I imagine you will be disappointed, like I was when I heard we had pulled the plug on Ten Hag because, apparently, Levy wouldn't give him what he wanted.

And I imagine we'll be disappointed, time and time and time again under Levy

At least if Conte walks the entirety of the fan base will turn on Enic, something that’s needed to happen for years

One positive in a deathly horrendous situation
This is the thing though.

It'll take Conte going, Kane too and possible even Son. Maybe Romero too, remember he's on loan still.

It'll take something drastic like that to happen for the fans to turn on ENIC.

The fans deserve better but there is still an overwhelmingly large percentage of the fan base and I'm specifically referring to the match going fan base that are still happy to lap up the mediocrity that ENIC are serving up.

This is the problem. Until the fans vociferously start revolting against ENIC nothing will change.

Tbh as fans we need to make that happen now whilst we still have Conte, Kane et al.
But I know full well it won't happen, there are too many fans happy to plod along into the abyss of mediocrity.

This could be a real turning point for the good if we can get ENIC out. I would be ok with ENIC staying if we could get them to take the footballing operation as a bigger priority. But I'm a fool for thinking that could happen after 20 years of what they have thrown up, so it's come down to trying to get them out.

One thing I know is that if there isn't a serious rebellion against ENIC by the fans nothing is going to change and we might as well get used to the 90s again.

Prepare to be shocked then.

He'll be here at the end of the season.

Would you give a 10/10 performance every match for $14 million a year? Or would you take some matches off? Maybe just the ones that arent worth your time...

Are you talking about giving 100% every time? If yes I believe Kane goes out and plays his best every single game. Some games he can carry alone and some games the team around him is just dogshit. Maybe the players around him are the ones that put in a shift vs City and expect to be carried by Kane vs the lesser teams.

Nobody can put out 10/10 PERFORMANCEs every single match. That would be achieving perfection.

I suspect Conte is pretty upset after tonight's result - following the results against Wolves and Leicester recently - which is why the outburst tonight.

And the conversation with Levy will be that its clear the size of a rebuild will probably be 6+ decent experienced players in the summer. And more player upgrades in January and summer 2023,

Levy's call - does he agree to that and putting the money and recruitment team in place or not.

Levy will understand that if that if that kind of backing is not forthcoming then Conte is off. But worse is that if Conte (probably the best manager around) cannot get enough out of the current squad, then no other manager is going to.

So in short Conte is ensuring Levy is backed into a corner.

I wrote the above last night which I think is still a fair summary of the situation.

But some posters seem to be thinking Conte will leave no matte what. That will only reflect badly on him - he said the players were the best he'd had only a couple of days ago, so he isn't leaving now. And he'd got the club to move on their most expensive 2 signings in Ndombele and Lo Celso (and Dele ) and started the rebuild by bringing in Bentancur and Kulusevski so he knows the club is open to changes he wants

And when recruited he knew that Mourhino had not succeeded so would have been forewarned that there were widespread squad issues.

So last nights outburst was a pre-emptive strike to say to the club that this summer will require lots of changes - and to be fair I suspect he's pushing on an open door. This squad of players has too many average players in it and Levy will know Conte is saying the same as previous managers, so Levy (who is no fool) will know lots of player changes are needed still - and whilst money may be an issue he has shown he will spend with £150m in Summer 2019, when Poch and recruiting team bought players with poor mentality in Ndombele and Lo Celso.

The only question in the summer is how many is it reasonable to target to change ? Six decent players in might be possible if we can sell Ndomele and Lo Celso, eight might be a stretch would be my guess.

In the mean time its Conte's job to get the best out of the current squad until the summer.

Ive just posted those quotes in the last couple of pages .

ENIC/Levy must know that this job is now a poisoned chalice and any decent manager will run a mile.

They therefore have 2 choices: invest heavily in Conte's chosen signings this summer, or F off after finding the highest bidder.
