Can someone put forward a genuine case why we are persisting with 5 defenders given we get run over in midfield all the time and also still concede loads of goals with 5 defenders?

Surely going to 4 and an extra midfielder makes us less predictable and allows Kane to stay up.

Kane spent more time outside the box than in it today. They knew Kane was going to drop deep. Except they cut out any passing options for Son by having their line deeper.

I guess the idea is that wingbacks aren't really defenders. and are a hybrid midfielder/defender. But all 4 of ours are bad.

none of our cbs are good enough to play in a 2 man Cb pairing...as simple as that.

Risk v reward.

Surely it's worth playing 2 in the hope of controlling games better and scoring more goals.

Compared to shitting yourselves with 3 CB's and still conceding goals and getting run over in midfield.

If Dier stepped up into DM then I think it could work better. He did this under poch. How many times do I have to see teams play a simple 1-2 around Hojbjerg, Winks or Bentancur and be right at our defence. Its how they scored the first goal today. Dier had to close that shot down but he's been told to stay in the line.

The same line that Reguilon tried to keep, but kept the guy onside for their second. Its more difficult holding the line with 5 defenders.

I think switching to 4 at the back only shifts our problems to other areas.

Also we can easily play with 3 MF even with 5 at the back. It is what Conte normally does.

Honestly this isnt even a joke bring in Sean Dyche and give him some money and see what he can do. The mentality has to change in the players. We cant have Heung Min Son cuddling and laughing with opposition managers who just kicked our ass

Dier was not very good at DM which is why he moved back and he doesn't help us in the MF because he can't control the ball and is poor at passing.

I don't see how that move makes us any better.

Under Nuno we were fine up until we hit a patch of games against decent/good teams - Chelsea, Woolwich, West Ham, United. He barely had time to blink before he was sacked.

Under Jose, yeah he had issues, particularly parking the bus far too early and getting on players' bad side for being an ego maniac. But remember, the big issue for us were injuries. He had us in 1st place in December. We hit a string of bad injuries and seriously lacked squad depth.

Under Conte, after the initial new manager bounce, we've been losing to some shit teams and have been lucky to scrap by on several occasions. I'm not seeing real improvement in any sort of way, Kane's been on and off, Son's gone to shit, our defense still looks leaky/shaky, our wingbacks are shit, our mid is non existent. So what are we doing right under Conte?
That's where you are a fan writing in a forum, and the real knowledgeable and skilled guys are top managers.
I'm sorry to say this, but you are talking rubbish.

There was a statistics under Nuno and we were either last or second last in most of departments, which include created chances, goals scored, goals conceded and most importantly how many chances our opponents have create, and on top of all, we were dead last in the running department, aka the laziest team in the league.

So trying to say we were okay under Nuno, and just a bad series of result, cause it was against decent teams, oh dear sorry, but this is far from the true.

It's fun to see some of ours fans, who just wait and probably hope we lose, so they can come here and start ***** on our manager.

We were the better side. We got better possession, and they didn't have much chances. But our players are just that bad. They led the most dangerous players in the last 15 or so years alone in exactly 3 situation, and he obviously had a good day and score 3 goals.

Kane was ***** all game, Son is ***** for quite some time, but they don't have a replacements on the bench.
Kulu was okish, but he obviously was benched, cause he is slow.
Conte obviously wanted to give more speed in our attacking side, and his subs obviously make sense, for anyone who is not just trying to find something to hate.

But our dog**** defense didn't let that happen, cause right after the subs we conceded a corner goal.
And the funny part? Ronaldo was left absolutely alone once again. Same as the first and the second goal.
How in the blue hell you can give Ronaldo that much space?
There isn't a manager in the world, that can do a ***** with this type of terrible defensive players, that their individual level is completely average.

What separate good from bad(not even going to compare elite, cause we lacks elite, except for Kane), is exactly the consistency. What you see 1 good game, and then 1 bad, than 2-3 so, so is a typically average skilled players that can't keep their form week after week.

I don't see how anyone can try to blame Conte, for this match especially.

We scored 2 goals against United away. At the very least we should have get a draw, but with that lacking midfielders and defense, we have to score at least 3-4, so we can be sure to get a draw ...

Also most of this matches are decided by the individual class of a player. Ronaldo showed it, our top players left that in home ....

But that’s the thing. You wouldn’t blame Conte if you came home from work and he was shagging your wife. Out of interest how long have you been supporting Spurs. I get the impression that it’s since 2nd November 2021

Because that's the way Conte likes it.
I never really thought we had the personnel for it, but, hey, it's what the boss thinks is best.

For example, it's completely reversed our fullbacks' priorities, and made their strengths into liabilities, and vice-versa. Now we need 7 cbs and not 5, etc...

Kane is not elite. He shows up against shit teams but doesn't show up against good teams or when it matters consistently enough.

Time and time again, he's shown to be a flat track bully. You can't coach that out of him.
If he wasn't elite, he wouldn't be consider one of the best Striker in the world some time ago.
And he is still in the conversation by some.

Ibra is also not have the best scoring ability against the big side, but he has been elite through most of his career.

Kane have 4 season in a row scoring 20+ goals in the PL alone.
You ain't doing that if you are just good.
Consistency is what separate the classes(not taking abilities in mind obviously).

Otherwise i agree with you, but against City he was solid.
I think for a striker the most important thing is to score regularly and that's what make them top. Also usually beating the "lower" teams regularly gives you the title or the results you are chasing. Obviously good results against the top sides are always a good bonus.

for me if we stick with Conte who wants to play 3-4-3
we need a creative MF and a real DM (like Kante at chelsea) if that is the case the money spent on Bentancur was wasted,
if we don't stick with Conte where do we go next ? another Levy wasted journey
