Interesting to see no-one gives a shit about Max Aarons anymore.

40m bullet dodged..... :sonhmm:

But would you go for Aarons at £20m to replace Royal - fills an HG spot and frees an overseas trained spot - with a fb who is ok in defence and attack with 150 PL appearances under his belt ?

Not ideal but does free up an overseas trained spot and at that price might mean another player is affordable ?

If we start the season with Aarons & Doherty?

No thanks.

150 EPL appearances? .....Who on earth is that?

Aarons 150 appearances for Norwich - half n PL ad half in Championship (= PL experienced youngster) .

You said "150 PL appearances under his belt". He has 64 and he's been unremarkable throughout.

But is Royal and Doherty any better ?

In truth I'd prefer 2 RWB's but not sure that's likely with other spots to fill !

This seems to operate on the basis of Aarons or nothing.

How about we go out and get someone better than him.

[new #1] + Doherty > Yes.

[new #1] + Aarons > I'd be ok with too.

Aarons being our new #1 'upgrade'????? > Hell no!

Doherty seems to be our no 1 RWB choice now .... and I suggested replacing Royal with Aarons at the right price (say £20m).

But ideally both current RB's go

Nah. 1 bad injury in September and you'll be understandably bricking it like some are now.

...And you don't want the option to do both?
My opinion is utterly irrelevant. If he’s picking 343 no matter what, five into two is too money and we need to have Sarr, White or Devine

Key thing is to move wankers like Winks out so they are never, ever involved

Is it time to look at the clubs likely to be relegated and list the players who we might actively want ?

After tonight, Leeds are 7 points ahead of the drop with 8 games to go, so likely safe.

That leaves :
- Norwich on 17 points, 8 points from safety
- Burnley on 21 points, 4 points from safety
- Watford on 22 points, 3 points from safety
- Everton on 25 points, 4 points above the drop but 4 points below Leeds.

Can't see Leeds (29 points) or Brentford (30 points) or Newcastle (31 points) being dragged in to the relegation fight.

So the question is which players (if any) would be available from the 4 potentially relegated clubs - and who play in positions we need to fill ?

Are there any ?
I think Everton should have enough squad depth to stay up, whereas Leeds may not.

Everton has a handful of players that I would consider for Spurs (under the right conditions/specifics), but I'd prefer to keep our relationship as is (AKA: Everton happy to buy our older toys.)
Sarr is VG but we don't need him IMO.
McNeil is a good call.
NORWICH:
  • You will laugh, but we could do much worse than TIM KRUL as a 2nd-choice GK. Obviously a short-term "fix".
  • OZAN KABAK. 21 year-old Turkish CB on loan from Schalke. Was on loan for a minute at Liverpool. Seems to be a project with many interested parties involved.
  • TEEMU PUKKI. For the LOLs, this would feel like a move we'd make circa the early '00s.
BURNLEY:
  • I love DWIGHT MCNEIL. Apparently, he has the same agency as Sessegnon and Troy Parrott. A leading global football agency | Unique Sports Group
  • I actually also really like Burnley's LB, CHARLIE TAYLOR, but get that he's unglamorous. He's also had some nagging injuries over the past 2 seasons.
  • NICK POPE. We (eventually) need 2 GKs. I don't have a strong opinion (or particular bias) towards any of the English GKs that occasionally get linked to us. He's always performed well against us.
WATFORD:
  • ******ReSiSt ThE uRgE tO tYpE SiSsOkO!1!!!11*****
  • EMMANUEL DENNIS and ISMAÏLA SARR would both have to be considered, but I'd be weary of Sarr, Watford have driven him into the ground over the past couple of seasons.
  • JOÃO PEDRO is probably the most interesting Watford prospect IMO.
  • SAMIR is a left-footed CB from Brasil via Serie A.
LEEDS:
  • RAPHINHA would be an absolute no-brainer (move-on Lucas + Lo Celso), but barring a relegation release clause, would likely cost +£40-45M, and likely has other suitors in Spain/Italy/etc...
  • PATRICK BAMFORD. We still need another/new #9. Is he crocked, though?
  • I'm more lukewarm on KALVIN PHILLIPS. Don't think he warrants the price/bidding war he may ending going for if Utd or Liverpool are interested...
  • DANIEL JAMES... Could he be a RWB in Conte's system?

MY TOP 3:
  1. RAPHINHA (Leeds)
  2. DWIGHT MCNEIL (Burnley)
  3. JOÃO PEDRO (Watford)
WILDCARD: CHRISTIAN ERIKSEN (Brentford)

Now for the elephant in the room : to get to a 25 man squad, we need (under UEFA rules) to have at least 4 Club trained players and a minimum of 8 trained at clubs affiliated with The FA (including the Club Trained players).

Currently we have :

Club Trained :
Kane, Winks, Tanganga and Austin or Whiteman ..... with Skipp becoming over 21 next season

Trained at Other Clubs affiliated to The FA :
Sessegnon

So we have at best 5 out of the 8 HG players we need to get to a 25 man squad - including Winks.

So the question becomes which HG players might be available - and ideally we need 3 of them !

Goalkeepers - As 2nd GK to replace Gollini, Sam Johnstone (WBA) is out of contract in June. Dean Henderson (ManU) is bitterly regretting signing a 5 year contract at ManU but doubt if they want to sell to us. Nick Pope might be available if Burnley are relegated.

After that, finding decent available HG players at a decent price becomes more tricky - I still think Spurs screwed up by not signing Jarrod Bowen from Hull.

Probably a short list would include u21's who we'd hope would develop such as Lewis-Potter winger (Hull) and RWB Spence (Middlesbrough). RB Jayden Bogle (Sheffield United)

But more mature HG players - winger Jesse Lingard (out of contract in June), CB/RB/LB Joe Gomez (Liverpool)is said to want a move but has 2 years left on his contract ....... the list of good available players is pretty short. Might be one or two possibilities if teams are relegated ?

I've turned around on JWP a lot this season. He's not much of a difference maker in open play, but his set-pieces alone have so much value to a team. Especially when you're trying to bridge a gap to the likes of Liverpool and City, you're not going to rival them in the league by playing possession dominant football to a higher standard than they're capable of.
That's exactly how I feel . I feel he would do damage to better sides than us. Always a threat.

Club Trained :
Kane, Winks, Tanganga and Austin or Whiteman ..... with Skipp becoming over 21 next season

And that, my friends, is why Harry Stinks sticks around. If Bryan Gil were born in Edmonton, Harry would probably be well on his way……

One of those lads stepping up to be #2 would be a real help to the cause.
