Player Rodrigo Bentancur

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

No DoF is ever going to get them all right, if you get 2/3rds right you're absolutely elite.

Romero, Kulusevski, and Bentancur is a pretty good return for 9 months in the job and two windows. Gil and Sarr are promising youngsters. Royal looks awful, but he's young and we might get some money back.

This summer will be a huge litmus test.
With a DoF it's very hard to evaluate over a short time period if not impossible, I'd go so far as to say it's a waste of time for people to do so.

Even now is way too early to make judgements but it feels like he's moved us in a positive direction so far:
1. Recruited one of the Worlds best coaches (this is even more amazing given we aren't one of the world's best Clubs)
2. Sold and moved on deadwood (Lo Celso, Ndombele, Dele, Aurier)
3. Loaned Gil (I've not included him in 2 because I hope to see him back here), Clark, Carter-Vickers, Whiteman & Sarr.
3. Recruited for future - turned 5th oldest squad in the league to the 5th youngest: Landing best Serie A CB and looking as though he'll be one of the best CB's in PL (he's just 23yrs old!!). I disagree with you about Emerson Royal (he is more defence-minded was brought in for a different profile than required now under Conte but he's better than Reggie, who's had the benefit of having Davies over/underlapping runs, whilst Romero was out injured so unable to do that on the right (he had Sanchez), also (he's just 23yrs old) and finally our tactics against low-block sides have been shite (just crossing into a packed box). Bought in Gil (21) and Sarr (19) are two highly rated in their age group. Julusevski JUST 21yrs old!!
4. Both Bentancur & Kulu straight into the first team and a clear upgrade
5. Kept our 3 best players and signed 2 of them up to new contracts
6. He did all this in his first 10 weeks at the Club is impressive to say the least especially as the market is totally fucked because of COVID and the impact on values and how much clubs have available to spend.

The only player that there are serious issues over their quality is Gollini but he's on loan with only an option (£15m) to buy, so no biggie here.

I don't want to go overboard or anything  but the double signing with Kulu could be even better than this one:

I thought he was only brought in to be Levy's fall guy.

:sonhmm:

He was great yesterday (possibly my man of the match although I gave it to Kane because I fancy him) but people need to calm down a touch. It was only couple of games ago many people were saying he's far too casual. He's talented and I think he's a good signing, same with Kulusevski. But he will need to learn that he's not going to get away with some of the stuff he was trying against a tired West Ham side every week in the Premier League.

He’s only had one poor game IMO. Been good in all the others

Guy plays on the edge doesn’t he

Nearly gave me a heart attack at the time that did! I think we are going to have to accept with him that every now and then he will get caught on the ball and we will occassionally get punished. It needs someone like him though that is confident and composed enough to get away with it most of the time as it is that sort of risk that is opening play up for us in the middle

I remember the hysterical reaction from a few fans when Spurs "only" managed to sign Rodrigo & Dejan. There was no end to how shit Levy and, particularly, Paratici were 😁
Paratici was even accused of being a Juve agent, collaborating with tJuve to help them get rid of his own "waste" and with NO idea about non-Seri A players, etc., etc.
Those people are quiet now while stuffing themselves with humble pies.
I am glad that Paratici - unlike a few members - did not consult Juve fan forums when taking his decisions...
PS! It is still early though. To properly judge a player the concerning players should be given 2 seasons

I mean up to now Benta and Kulu seem like astute purchases. I think fanbase is happy with them.

But that does not change fact that we did too little incoming business during winter transfer window, ffs. And I mean it is not like we are now about to clinch a title - we are still on 5th place and outsiders to get it into CL.
We sent out Ndombele, Lo Celso, Alli and Gil - I admit, they all got quite few minutes on the field, but still if we consider our squad, I was not happy with activity. With 4 out and massive rebuild needed, I think either RWB/LCB/creative CM/another striker should have come also through the door to be sufficient in the tempo of rebuild. Right now we do well, but we literally have 0 adequate bench players to call upon if needed now that Sess and Skipp are injured. That is not good enough and our results are not good enough.

NB! That is not rant on Benta - as I said, he has been useful and even though he had poor game against ManU, he now has been excellent in past 2. That is rant on trying to say that there was no neglience in our winter transfer window.

Let's talk about 25 million for Emerson Royale with cheese before we start canonising the D.O.F juries definitely still out...
Emerson Royal is in his first season in the EPL but he's already played under 3 different head-coaches and was originally bought as a RB, so give him some slack.
He may not be "made" for the EPL but he was rated among the best RB in La Liga, so he's not gone bad that fast. I reckon a loan back to the right La Liga club could restore his reputation - just like what happened with Gil and Lo Celso. - and then sell him for a good price.

Royal has also had a few games where he has played very well defensively but he isn’t suited to wing back. So while he may not be of the quality we need the bigger issue was buying a defensive RB for Nuno but getting Conte in who doesn’t even play that position in his teams.

This is why we need a manager and DoF of good quality and stability to buy the players suited to the system. If we can keep Conte then we can buy players suited to him.

It's refreshing watching a midfielder not shit himself when receiving a ball after all this time. If only we had another alongside him - 10 more games and we can relegate PEH to the Winks role and Winks to the glue factory.

His calmness on the ball really helps us play out from the back, proper Conte midfielder. He, Romero and Dier is a good footballing trio to build with, add a better LCB than Davies and we are cooking.

He even made Emerson look competent in their interchanges when he came on! Magician.

I want Pau Torres at LCB.
