Chatter out there that Barca won't trigger their purchase of Traore, so maybe he lands back on our radar in the summer too.......

Yeah that's kind of a sad list.

I feel like there just aren't that many great fullbacks and wingbacks and it's a difficult position in the transfer market. But maybe my perception is colored by the fact that every time we buy a new one it seems like a downgrade.

The Walker -> Trippier -> Aurier -> Doherty -> Royal run has been quite the excursion. LB is barely better post-Rose.

Livramento is fucking brilliant. I was at Southampton vs City (got offered tickets last minute, rushed out at the end to watch the Spurs game on my phone in my car!!) and he was electric, causing City all sorts of problems. Quietened down in the 2nd half but the ability there is obvious, I'd love to see what Conte could do with him.

Sadly there's all the shit with Chelsea and whether they'd still be able to buy back or w/e. But he'd be worth a big fee.

With West Ham sinking down the table and the uncertainty at Chelsea, why not push the boat out for Declan Rice?
We cannot buy him. Beech Beech would shrivel up like a raisin watching him every week...

I have mentioned de Ketelaere before (during the January transfer window). Thing is, in Conte's formation he'd only fit in as a CF, whereas in a 4-3-3 formation he could also play as CAM.
Meaning, if he joined Spurs he'd be Kane's understudy, and I doubt he would like that. Unless Conte plays 2 CF, but then Son still would be the choice player besides Kane.
I've nailed my colours on the mast previously on this.

But de Ketelaere is exactly the kind of player we should be getting to play back up to Kane. He's got plenty of years in him to grow into the team. That reason of playing second fiddle shouldn't even come into it.

Charles would do well to learn from Kane and develop his game under him.

Forget Rice. Liveramento and Kalvin Philips is the two simple smart moves we could make. They help the home grown issue and allow us to get a top overseas LCB LWB and Centerforward we desperately need.
Not so smart if Chelski can buy him off Spurs (I also would like Livramento at Spurs). I am not saying they can - but so far no one has been able to explain exactly how this buy-back clause would apply in case Spurs (or any other club) did buy him from Soton. And now with the sanctions, there may be other factors affecting this contract.
If Phillips will totally recover from his hamstring injury (he's been out since 5th December) and is available at a "decent" price, then a yet to him.

Surely the clause only applies if/when Southampton try to sell him. There's no way it can carry over to a new buying club.

I remember being linked with Eze. Maybe Olise links passed me by a little. Brain going to mush in my old age.
Yea Eze was being linked more than Olive. Both raised questions from fans as to why were weren’t looking into them more, but based on the lower volume of links for Olise I got the impression that the club didn’t seemed to fussed about it.

Benrama is another one I wouldn’t have turned my nose up at, but that we seemingly weren’t interested in

The clause is between Chelsea and Southampton. It wouldn't follow him to whatever club Southampton sell him to.

It is basically set up so that if he impresses at Southampton, Chelsea can buy him back at a cheaper than expected price. Or just buy him back if one of their rivals (us, Woolwich, United etc) try to buy him just so that they could spite us.

If his recovery from injury checks out then Phillips would be a great option.

I would take Jack Harrison from Leeds as well and play him at left wing-back. He can do everything Reggie does but would miss fewer of the one-on-one chances we are creating out on that side.

Absolutely they did. However, I’d argue that Dier, Eriksen, Son and Modric still tick the box of investing in youth despite higher profiles and values, and who the fuck had ever heard of Ekotto, The 22 yearold left back from Lens…

Hugo, Berbatov and the Belgian centre backs very much established players.

I wouldn’t suggest we look, or ever did look, at lower leagues solely, of course there needs to be a blend, but bringing in talent from abroad hasn’t stopped at all (depending on how lovely one uses the term talent 😂) but since Dele the only young player we’ve brought in off the back of impressing in the football league is Clarke, which has yet to pan out for a variety of reasons.

At the same time as getting Carrick, we brought in Davis who didn’t work out. For Lennon there was Routledge. Dawson and Reid came as a package. Walker and Naughton. Even Defoe was after we’d tried and got nowhere with Zamora for 6 months.

At subs point we stopped investing in youth in bulk, and I think that’s hindered us.
This gives me serious nostalgia for the days that I thought Davis and Carrick were going to compliment eachother perfectly in the middle of the park, become our Vieira/Petit and lead us to glory...

Man Davis was a massive disappointment!

He's 19 and was by far the best player on his team full of senior players .. in a quarter final game against the best team in the world. He wasn't poor in the second half, he just struggled to shine when City took full control of the game. Whenever he got the ball he was causing them problems.

Any time he got the ball, Southampton fans were excited. That's generally a good sign the match going fans rate a player.
