Can Spurs actually get 100 pts and still finish fifth?

Latest Spurs videos from Sky Sports

It doesn't matter if you get 100pts, if you end up in the Europa cup.

Since I have a bit of free time I did some messing around with Excel just for fun. And the short answer is no. Even though this is a very Spursy result, it can't possibly happen.

As unlikely as it can be, the point ceiling for coming 5th is 98 points. The math is simple: if Spurs win against all teams and tie the top 4 home and away, we'll have 8*1 + 30*3 = 98. If we win against a top 4 team, says Woolwich, then we by default ends up higher than Woolwich. The season this happens we will probably going to win the league by goal differences.

But then it turns out we CAN get 100 points and still get in Europa and not CL. Suppose exactly the same scenario played out but we beat Chelsea home and away, which means Chelsea finishes fifth.

Which is a scenario we sadly all know too well.

It's been fun. All these questions can be solved with simple algebra but it's way more fun playing with the spreadsheet and plugging in numbers to suppose PL scenarios. If anyone wants the excel file let me know. I can also code in results by goals and show goal differences but that's a bit more difficult and will have to wait (and someone probably already did this but who cares).

also can someone please change the Caps in the title thanks

If Spurs get 98 points and finish 5th ill start supporting Millwall. Fuck it I'd even move to South Bermondsey.

When @ Éperons Éperons wakes up and checks this he's gonna have the best morning wank of all time

Can't pretend I have read all the figures but I can see the sentiment. Sure it's possible that this could happen, but it's almost entirely unlikely. In fact I think any team that finishes with anywhere near 100 points this season will win the league. Many teams have strengthened significantly, you only have to look at Cardiff and how much they have been spending. Or Norwich, or Swansea. Now more than ever there will be no easy games in the premier league.

Fucking Ted Cobra!!

No but really, if people don't like stats thread they are welcome to hit the ignore thread button, knocking the work we spend time to do is so irritating and only helps in pushing people away.
I love stats.

But come on, 100 points. ?

I don't mean to harm the thread

Ok, so @ jet jet wanted to answer a question he was wondering about and felt like sharing the results, I don't believe for a moment he thought it a likely scenario!

I suppose a single thread where all 2013/14 season chat can go into was a better idea then?
