Eric Dier lauds Antonio Conte for improving Tottenham mentality to earn Burnley win

Antonio Conte has been instrumental in turning around Tottenham’s mentality to earn Sunday’s edgy 1-0 win over Burnley, says Eric Dier.
The defender helped keep a vital clean sheet as a Spurs side not at their best jumped Woolwich to claim fourth place ahead of the Gunners’ trip to Newcastle on Monday.

For Dier, the victory was of stark contrast to Tottenham’s defeat at Turf Moor earlier in the season which also came after a major win for his team.

“He is right,” Dier told reporters when asked about Conte’s claim that Spurs’ mentality has improved.

“I think coming off the Woolwich game… In the past, if you look at the last Burnley game away, we beat Manchester City away a couple days before then we lose away to Burnley.

“We are making steps in the right direction and today was another one. That comes down to the manager and his influence over us and us feeding off that and trying to do what he wants from us.

“We have been improving constantly under him and the results have come with that. There’s still so much space for us to improve under him.”

Dier described life under Conte and made clear his hope that the Italian will remain at Tottenham for some time.

“It is a big contrast him on the touchline and training pitch to him off it,” added the centre-back. “At half time and in meetings at training he is very calm and gets his message across very clearly, but passionately always.

“But on the training pitch and on the touchline he is so aggressive and intense. There’s so much intensity in training. Training is the same as it is [in games], he just feels and lives it and that just rubs off on you.

“You feel that passion that he shows and all his staff as well. It has been so enjoyable to work under him.”

He continued: “I can speak for the group of players, and I think the manager would agree as well, the relationship between this group and the manager is something special and I really want to continue to build that relationship. There’s so much room for improvement. With this group and this manager, it would be a shame for it to end now.”

heard it all before,
proof will be when we win something, or come very close

Does anyone here believe Conte is not the real deal anymore?

Beat Norwich and we finish on 71 points. We've only had more on 3 occasions in the PL era. And all 3 of those were with strong, high performing teams under managers that had been there all season.
Even if we don't get top 4, 71 points is a phenomenal haul given where we were with Nono.

We need to get this through to Daniel Greedy. He needs to understand, we are at a juncture right now. The same one Liverpool were at in the early days of Klopp. He has something about him, he knows what he's doing. Give him what he needs and he will succeed.

FFS Daniel. Look at what you could have. Look at the stadium. Look at the current atmosphere it is generating. Look at how this guy came in, and by thinning out the squad, has taken us from potentially a bottom half finish, to within a point of the Champions League - or even in it.

If you do not make Conte happy this summer then it is unequivocally time to leave THFC to some one who wants to win.

More evidence.
0-3 home loss to United. 10 games and 15 points with a -7 GD. 1.5 PPG.
Since then, 27 games 53 points 1.96ppg - GD up to +24 which is now comfortably the 4th best in the league.
Woolwich - 1.88ppg since Conte
Chelsea 1.73ppg
Only City and Liverpool have taken more than us. Admittedly, it's a fair bit more but they took a grand total of 2 points from us from a possible 9 and we didn't lose a game to either all season.

We just need too sort our shit out against poxy Chelsea. We could start to see a swing in the right direction on that next season if we back the man!

Quite frankly it’s insane that we’re at this juncture again this quickly.

We didn’t reinforce when we should when we were at this point with Poch, let’s hope it goes differently this time.

There was this absolutely insane period a while back on here when people were really questioning him. It was utterly baffling. Watch it come beck from some quarters if we don't get fourth and when Poch is sacked. People will be calling for Poch, you can bet on it.

Even if we don't get 4th, what he's done this season, with a weak squad, is phenomenal.
If you'd have thought he could get 5th on 71 points relying heavily on Davies and Dier at the back, alternating between 4 wing backs that don't really attack well and reducing the squad size in the winter window, you'd probably have been sectioned.

If anyone feels like we missed out on CL because of Conte they need to f off. We would have been nowhere near it without him.

Ammased 12 clean sheets (3 under Nuno) with Dier, Romero, Sanchez and Davies, Emerson, Sess, Reg, Doc at the back, that has matched our record (15) when we had prime Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen and Rose when we conceded 26 goals

Levels.
