I think we're better off sticking with Emerson and Doherty than replacing them with any of these players.

Unless we're getting proven quality in that position, it's not worth it. I would hate it if we sold Emerson off and replaced him with someone with a few fancy ball skills but can't defend. Wing-back is a defensive position and defensive attributes should be the first consideration.

Gareth Bale was originally signed as a full-back but despite his obvious talent on the ball he took a couple of seasons to establish himself in the team and he certainly didn't succeed because of his defensive qualities. My assessment of Spence is along similar lines. He is still a player in development and may find that his attacking talents supersede his defensive ones and will therefore be no good to us as a wing back.

If the aim is to build a team that can compete for the League and the Champions League, we need wing backs who can defend. If their attacking qualities are deficient, they focus on getting the ball to the players who can attack (as Emerson has been doing).
No disrespect but I can’t think of a post I disagree with more.

Who be this lad?

I wish Pochettino had done this before signing Ndombele. In fact, he could simply have googled him and had enough info not to buy him.

Sky reporter reveals Spurs the lengths Spurs are going to in order to sign the right players - Spurs Web - Tottenham Hotspur Football News

Tottenham Hotspur are leaving no stone unturned in their extensive recruitment efforts to improve their squad.

Sky Sports reporter Paul Gilmour has revealed that the north Londoners have previously rejected the opportunity to sign a talented Premier League footballer since their findings believed that he would be a disruptive influence within the dressing room.

Spurs managing director of football Fabio Paratici has been working behind the scenes to conduct an evaluation of all departments which link to the footballing aspect of the club including a refresh of the scouting set-up (Football.London).

Gilmour told Sky Sports: “Extensive homework is being carried out on player ability and character. Spurs recently rejected the chance to sign one talented Premier League player because their research highlighted concerns he could be a disruptive influence.”

Antonio Conte appears to have moved on some of the disruptive influences within the squad and now has a happy core of players which we have not seen since the Mauricio Pochettino era.

Sky reporter Michael Bridge revealed in March that Giovani Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele were not generally popular at the club which is hardly surprising both found themselves shipped out of the club on loan (GiveMeSport).

Why is this argument not applied to Jota/Dias/Firmino/Origi?

WE NEED QUALITY DEPTH.

Signing someone like GJ would allow us to play Son in the CL, for example, and then rest him and start GJ in the league. These kind of options are what is required to go to the next level.

Some unique phenomenon that Spurs seem to have that we can never sign an attacker because Son or Kane couldn't possibly ever be rotated. The reason they have seen so little rotation is precisely because we never had a good option to come in, so they were forced to play every minute even through severe losses in form.

The most simple argument possible -

BEFORE FIXING DEPTH, GET YOUR FIRST XI SORTED OUT!

Seems fairly obvious that when you need few first pick players that would start 35+ games every season, then you first start with them. Cause you know- they play 35+ game. So their overall net contribution is bigger than for those that start 15 and then come on as sub for another 15.

But what considers the specific situation - I think it is Jesus specific. If you think it from his perspective, he is currently rotation option for one of the very richest club that is title-winning machine right now. Why would he specifically come to club that is smaller, poorer and where it is way harder to win trophies and still stay as rotational player?!?

I think among fans there is common understanding that we should sell Moura and Bergwijn and bring in someone who would be able to push/rotate our front 3. Just maybe Jesus specifically might not make sense.

P O Keefe mentioned that this player could be Pogba.. not that Pogba had agreed to join or anything, but that we declined to look into a potential deal.

Pochettino was the coach. It wasn't his job to do background checks/scouting on players. We have no idea if the people we had at the club actually did their research or not. You think Klopp is doing that kind of work at Liverpool? He didn't even want Salah.

Blame the scouting team, not the manager..

Remember... Levy got £17m for Kevin Wimmer 😎
We need to move on from weaning every last penny out of deals and dragging it out. You don’t want these turds at pre season, fuck them off now and let Conte plan accordingly

Agree on Wimmer, ridiculous fee but those days are gone man…. Too much scouting and data that blocks managers from making lazy, speculative decisions

Leverkusen don't sell their players cheaply. He will probably cost around 60-70 mill which is what Benfca would want for Nunez. Yeah not being proven in a top league is a risk but the same could have been said of Diaz and he is doing fine at Liverpool. What I like about Nunez is that he is physically a monster and is not afraid to impose himself, but he is quite mobile too and can play effectively down the left wing as well as through the centre, so could be an option to rotate with both Son and Kane. Schick is more of a central striker.
I wouldn't be surprised if the stadium rights have been settled, hence the wad of money available for transfers
